The thing is, 1980s Madonna had a lot of her own punk moments, so she easily could've just shown up as the Like Virgin video or wearing the *Desperately Seeking Susan* earring and jacket, etc., and okay fine I do kind of wish she'd done the latter. She's got the insouciant Vivienne Westwood gown, but I feel like it's doing all the work and it looks a bit tired. Fishnets and those mesh Madonna fingerless gloves might have been fun adds. Or less glam hair. There is DEFINITELY something punk about being a designer yourself, and showing up in NONE of your own stuff but rather a hodgepodge of others that are all things you clearly already owned. I respect that.
