I might be down with this if I showed up at her house late at night, with a flat tire, and she opened the door with a brandy in her hand and offered me the use of her land line.

This is a very thoughtful craft project, but perhaps not a high-fashion garment.

This is very cool. It looks, to me, like the dress version of what the WOPR sounded like in "War Games."

This one was a bit controversial -- my computer has trouble discerning details in black dresses, but I guess there's a lot of frayed detailing along this. However, I think she pulled it off well, and that turquoise necklace is exactly why and how.

If that is not a secret flask around her neck, DON'T TELL ME.

She's like a very posh gift. Her head is somehow especially fantastic, which evens out that I'm not that wild about the cut of the pants.

A very cheerful dress -- Cate was, I think, the first person I saw wearing Roksanda -- but the shoes are a thud with it.

I wish she'd put the jacket ON. And closed it.

That fabric is hella confusing, but this designer does REALLY engaging things with it. Remember when it turned Solange into a dinner plate with legs?

From behind it's beyond arresting.

But now I'm bummed out. By both of them.

This is the second Armani she wore with that bow flourish. It's attractive on her, for sure, and I do think in repeating it she picked the better one.

This reminds me of an intimates laundry bag I once owned.

I like this on her, but the hair styling is tipping her into Kooky Old Broad a bit before her time. And I say that as someone with great affection for Kooky Old Broads.

I enjoy how this picture makes it look like she's wearing freaking VALENTINO just to go shlubbing around doing errands (in reality I THINK she had been on a morning show?).

So... I'm not sure I can get with her using fake tattoos as a shirt.

This might be the worst thing that's ever happened to her. It's SO BAD. I think even CATE might have been testing her own carte blanchett here. I CAN'T with these. Even as pajamas they are a mighty fail.

But then she won me back a little with this bonkers cape ensemble, which glimmers and glitters and totally shoplifts the thunder from anyone else around it.

She also seemed to know how to move in it so as to increase its visual allure.

This is really, really busy. And it looks like a pair of ravens flew directly into her pockets. I think I want the skirt to be longer, to properly balance all the drama up top?

That's better, I think, but I'm not in love with how it's sitting on her.

Velvet pants and a napkin? I must pass, milady.

I am not a personal fan of this one. I am not into the split-pea soup of a color, and I think the design is unflattering to her figure. So it lost me from the front at the get-go...

... but then REALLY disposed of me with this view, and its associated optical illusion that the skirt is falling off and we're seeing some serious rump.

This is like the pockets on that Schiaparelli, but writ VERY LARGE. I hope she scented that thing. If she has to have her face next to it, then she might as well get a whiff of something pleasant.

Karl does favors for SO FEW these days. Cate included. This is a fancy bag behind which I cannot stand.

And frnakly, I don't even know WHAT either of these two were thinking for this event. Cate is in coveralls, like she's fixing a flat, and Rooney is... what IS Rooney doing? I hope everyone that turned up at this Q&A felt like they got their money's worth in terms of weird outfits.

And then Stella got her lousy mitts all over Cate, and this was the end result. This is TERRIBLE. I don't understand the appeal AT ALL and so either she's boundary-pushing again, or she just genuinely has temporarily misplaced her mojo.

Can we count this as an apology? Or is she, too, trying to end the year with a palate cleanser so she can launch into awards season with her plumage FULLY out?
