This slideshow is in the vaguest of chronological orders -- it's definitely not totally accurate, because I organized it using my memory and Kate's pregnancy as guidelines -- but there was literally no way I wasn't going to kick it off with George's IMMENSE DELIGHT at seeing something (horsies? His Daddy? Eugenie?) at Trooping the Colour this year. May we all feel this kind of unbridled joy in 2016.

I loved this dress on Kate -- it's covered in tiny sailboats. I also enjoy it whenever they make the royals do something wacky -- plant a tree, fling themselves down a cliff, whatever is happening here. ENTERTAIN US, HUMAN!

I also am incapable of resisting a polka dot.

Remember when Kate visited Downton? It was totally fun and full of things we enjoy. (Also! Downton's final season starts here on January 3rd, and, yes, the recaps will be back. I CAN'T WAIT. NO SPOILERS.)

Downton's Georges are EXTREMELY CUTE. They are also amazing casting for The Offspring of Dan Stevens. Are we sure this isn't actually one of Dan Stevens's children, honestly?

"You probably have these at home, yes?"

When one is royal or married to royals, one is given all kinds of wacky gifts. I hope Harry puts this on his head and wanders out to the shops one morning.

I suspect -- AND HOPE -- the photographer behind this show was proud. That is one historical side-eye

Every time she wears this coat, I want it for my own. Despite not being pregnant.

Ah, the Traditional St Patrick's Day event at Mons Barracks, one of my favorite events....

....mostly thanks to all the traditional drinking. (Also because Wills is hotter in a hat. You know it's true.)

Gotta eyeball at least one updo this year.

You may note that this slidehshow has a high percentage of William In A Uniform and yes, that is true. That's just how I am; that is how we roll here.

I love this photo. The light almost makes it look like a painting, and I love what Kate is wearing.

I also LOVE this coat. Good coats + suits being buttoned or unbuttoned = good times.

"HELLO EVERYONE. PLEASE PREPARE YOURSELVES. THIS SLIDESHOW HAS A GREAT DEAL OF ME BEING ME. I PERSONALLY THINK IT IS A DELIGHT AND SO, THEREFORE, SHOULD YOU. THANK YOU."

Like I wasn't going to include any and all smooching.

Yay for babies, royal or otherwise.

I know it's the second time around, but it still has to be surreal for Kate to be like, "hey, universe, HERE'S MY NEW BABY!" The good news is, everyone is ideally so blissed out here that it probably doesn't really register.

HOLD MORE HANDS IN 2016.

Three cheers for the safe arrival of Princess Smushycheeks, and all the Fug National babies that made their debut this year.

It was hard to choose which photo from this event to feature -- there is one where all you can see is Kate's hat, floating randomly like a hideous satellite dish in the background -- but this one won out because Harry looks SO PLOTTY. He is planning SOMETHING and I hope to overhear his soap operatic monologue about it, once he delivers it to a vase in a deserted Buckingham Palace hallway.

Polo in the park with George was a VERY popular post this year, and thus we shall revisit much of it. (I enjoy how very gentlemanly George is here. "MOTHER, PLEASE GIVE ME YOUR HAND AND ALLOW ME TO ESCORT YOU DOWN THIS HILL SAFELY NOW. RIGHT NOW. THANK YOU.")

This slide does have everything: Breton stripes, cute tiny princes, those boots on Wills, huge mallets that can be used for mass destruction....

...EXTREMELY doubtful facial expressions....

...George clinging to his little toy...

...and WAVING.

Yes, we are indeed deep into the George and Charlotte portion of this retrospective. I enjoy Charlotte's mildly terrified expression here. She has SEEN what George does to his toys.

"THIS TOY IS SO VERY INTERACTIVE, MUMMY. THANK YOU FOR GIVING ME SOMETHING SO COMPLICATED."

Awww.

From what I understand, this photo actually IS the Cambridges' Christmas card this year (at least, one of them) and I am enraged that I haven't gotten mine yet. WHAT ELSE DO I HAVE TO DO FOR YOU PEOPLE?

Mario Testino is very generous when it comes to cropping William's head.

Wills and Kate make cute babies, that is for sure.

I love this picture, primarily because she looks so bored. "The roof of this pram is really rather dull, Mother. Can I have a book in here, please? Hello? Anyone?"

Cute babies with extremely expressive faces are my favorite kinds of babies. (Inscrutable babies are also entertaining but slightly more ominous.)

What an understated christening gown.

This child. He pleases me. If you ever wanted to see the heir to the British throne making a face that says, "well, excuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuse me!," look no further.

"ARE YOU SURE SHE'S STILL IN THERE?"

READY TO RUMBLE. Always.

This is very picturesque. All of it. Hat, too.

I'm just so relieved that William got a new pair of normal person sunglasses in 2015. (I suspect that is EXACTLY what Billie Jean King is ALSO thinking here.)

This is how Heather and I plan to roll into all future game nights. (We trade off who gets to be Kate.)

Oh, hey, Harry! I said at the time, and stay by this, that I like to think of this as the end shot of the closing credits of the sitcom starring these three.

HUGGING. More squeezes in 2016! (I just want people to be more handsy at all times. Half of my notes to Heather about basically any media I consume is about whether or not enough people are making out.)

This is possibly my favorite royals picture of the year.

Although we cannot discount the time Kate stole a pirate ship.

This was one of my favorite dresses of the year for Kate; I also appreciated that here they were all tasked with chucking boots at things. I NEVER get to chuck boots at things when I'm at work. I mean, I guess I could start? Should I toss my wellies at the Christmas tree and see how that goes over?

TIARA NUMBER ONE!

GOWNS!

FLORAL DIVISIVENESS!

"So, this year, you two will have a baby, throw some boots at some stuff, get matching jackets, and fling yourselves down a rock. How does that sound? Great. YES, you'll get a helmet for at least part of it."

Look how much she's grown!

This is just cute as can be.

I just liked this photo, in which the wind decides to fix Kate's bangs for her.

TIARAS: PART TWO: THE TIARANING.

"Hello? Harry? HARRY I KNOW IT'S YOU. I'd recognize that breathing anywhere."

High-fives!

The only thing we're missing are finger guns.
