I love: The color, the sequins, that lipstick, her perfect brows. I could live without: I'm never going to be particularly devoted to this cut of gown. It's a personal problem. Sarah is going to be okay regardless.

It's a bit hard to tell from the photo, but I believe this is trousers, topped with a jacket that has a long, skirt-like train. Regardless, it looks smashing on Dame Helen -- and she gets bonus points for pink shoes!

This looks like the NICEST bridesmaid's dress you ever had, and that sounds like a backhanded compliment, but truly I think she looks lovely. (Just imagine a bouquet in her hand, though. Right? It think it's the taffeta.)

This is really fun! I might argue that it's TOO fun for the Director's Guild Award, which always feels like an Obligation Event for actors.

"Oh, look, Louis Vuitton made her something so understated! It's pretty!" I thought, and then I saw that this is actually by Brandon Maxwell. I don't know if you saw BlacKkKlansman, but she looks SO FANTASTIC in it that it bums me out anew whenever she shows up somewhere looking less than spectacular. (FWIW, I think this is good! I just mean...in general.)

Elsie Fisher's Parade of Awards Season Pants continues and I love her stylist for never putting her in a skirt. WEAR YOUR PANTS (and shorts) YOUNG LADY!

I appreciate that Octavia Spencer is one of those celebrities who ALWAYS shows up looking reliably good. Sometimes she just looks Normal Good and sometines she looks Fantastic (I'd place this one under Normal Very Good) but she never causes me a moment of sartorial concern and I cherish her for that.

Okay, remove one (1) top-hat, and add one (1) whimsical arm sling and you get....nothing! (I have a theory that ASP would like to stop wearing her usual Whimsical Top Hat, an accessory she has habitually sported in public for YEARS, but she cannot because it is the item from which she draws her strength. For example, she did NOT wear it to the Golden Globes and she lost. She DID wear it to the Critics Choice Awards, and she WON. She left it at home for this event, and lost. IT'S ALL IN THE HAT.) (This is a great coat, though.)
