## Allyson Felix, Athing Mu, Dalilah Muhammad and Sydney Mclaughlin

Mandatory Credit: Photo by Charlie Riedel/AP/Shutterstock (12252228k) The United States team of Allyson Felix, Athing Mu, Dalilah Muhammad and Sydney Mclaughlin, from left, celebrate winning the gold medal in the final of the women's 4 x 400-meter relay at the 2020 Summer Olympics, in Tokyo, Japan Olympics Athletics, Tokyo, Japan - 07 Aug 2021

These women are amazing! They're so FAST and adept. (I find relays very stressful to watch. The baton handoff!) I'm also happy to note here at the outset that none of the Team USA track and field kits made anyone look like they were designed by Budweiser, unlike the swimming attire. Everyone's track outfits were classic and reasonable, and even a little bit retro. Shout-out to the Nike ones for leaning into stripes for everyone.

## Allyson Felix

One of the best things about Olympic-level track and field is seeing how physically relaxed some of the athletes look, even when they're clearly going all out. Allyson Felix here looks like she's just breezily trotting around the block. (I'm sure it helps that the US team won this particular event by a large margin.)

Let's give a massive round of applause for America's most decorated track and field athlete ever. She is amazing.

## Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce, Elaine Thompson-Herah, Shericka Jackson

The Jamaican team's ensembles are ALSO classic and good and WOW they are good at the 100-meter, given that they finished 1-2-3\. (I also like how many hyphenated names they have in this threesome.) (I also appreciate that, as much as I enjoy Olympic Hugs, this particular group seemed VERY competitive in way that might not have been totally supportive of each other. I am always here for Athletic Beefs and Nemiseseses.)

## Nethaneel Mitchell-Blake

Team GB took the silver in the 4x100 men's relay but Nethaneel Mitchell-Blake takes first in my heart in the Arms Race. My goodness!

## Filippo Tortu and Eseosa Fostine Desal of Italy

Olympic Games 2020 Sport Athletics, Tokyo, Japan - 06 Aug 2021

The Italians took the gold in said relay, and there were hugs! I bet everyone was shocked and relieved that the US totally bungled our heats and didn't even make the final! Despite having the second best time in the world this year! I suspect the Former Track and Field Stars Group Text was AFLAME over this. Regardless: Good for Italy, which is having a fast year, and is always peopled with attractive folks.

## Peres Jepchirchir of Kenya

Olympic Games 2020 Athletics, Sapporo, Japan - 07 Aug 2021

The Kenyans ALSO have great uniforms -- you'll see more of them later -- and their marathoners are so outstanding. They make it look so easy. I know it WASN'T, but it LOOKS like it, even in the heat and humidity. The joy in this photo is the greatest.

## Peres Jepchirchir of Kenya and Molly Seidel of USA

And cheers to American Molly Seidel, who took the bronze even though this is just her third marathon! (She didn't just get off the sofa and run a bunch of very fast marathons. Apparently, she used to run the 10k. [She wrote a very thoughtful piece for SI last year about her journey to the marathon](https://www.espn.com/olympics/story/%5F/page/Going-September252020/how-olympic-marathoner-molly-seidel-found-way-run-again?ref=go-fug-yourself.ghost.io); be aware that it discusses her issues with disordered eating.) Peres Jepchirchir's nails are fantastic, in other news.

## Raven Saunders of the US

## Yulimar Rojas of Venezuela

Yulimar won the gold medal AND set a world record in the triple jump and this photo really illustrates how. This could be in the dictionary next to FAST. Her Wikipedia is very interesting and [it seems like she's had a life of a lot of adversity](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Yulimar%5FRojas?ref=go-fug-yourself.ghost.io#Personal%5Flife); she's also Venezuela's first female gold medalist EVER.

Yulimar is so TALL! (I looked it up, and she's 6'4.) Hooray for Portugal and Spain for filling out the medal stand! Patricia Mamon's long-sleeved top, calf-warmer combo is very cool. Ana and Yulimar are training partners, so this must have been sweet for them.

## Christina Clemons

[Christina Clemons took her Doritos earrings with her](https://go-fug-yourself.ghost.io/christina-clemonss-doritos-earrings-are-iconic-06-2021/)! And I love her butterflies. She didn't medal this time, but just making it to the Olympics is triumph.

## Gianmarco Tamberi of Italy (L) and Essa Mutaz Barshim of Qatar

Olympic Games 2020 Athletics, Tokyo, Japan - 01 Aug 2021

Speaking of triumph, this was amazing; these men tied at the end of the high jump, and had the choice to go to a jump-off, but decided to just share the gold medal. They're friends, and this was CLEARLY the best-case scenario for them. I love it. HUGS! (Wikie tells me of Gianmarco, "At major competitions, he is known for sporting a full beard during qualification and shaving half of it for the final." WHICH HALF?)

## Gianmarco Tamberi and Marcell Lamont Jacobs

Olympic Games 2020 Athletics, Tokyo, Japan - 01 Aug 2021

Gianmarco Tamberi, in fact, LOVES TO HUG people, because here he is gently cradling Marcell Lamont Jacobs's face after MLJ won the 100 meter dash. I think we need a track and field equivalent to [HUGGED BY A SWIMMER](https://www.gofugyourself.com/photos/the-hugs-and-abs-of-the-2020-summer-olympics/olympics-swimming-tokyo-japan-01-aug-2021-4?ref=go-fug-yourself.ghost.io) called CRADLED BY A RUNNER.

I just really like pictures of people running. I am only an expert on this every four years but I feel like Fred Kerley has a beautiful lean. (I look forward to Carl Lewis telling me I am wrong if so, though.)

## Andre De Grasse (Canada)

Andre De Grasse ended up winning the Men's 200m and I am always interested in and respect people who run in their sunglasses. I assume these are the kind that strap all the way around your head and not like a rando pair he picked up at the AM/PM on the way to the airport. If Canada even has AM/PM. Heather has not informed me of this important detail.

This is a great photo. Jasmine Camacho Quinn is obviously so thrilled with her gold medal, and Kendra Harrison is also like WHEEEEE with her silver. (Also, Kendra's shoes are cute.) The woman next to Kendra is just serene in the knowledge that she resembles Amber Heard.

Megan Tapper of Jamaica took the bronze in the hurdles but I feel like she also deserves a medal for this move! It's perfect!

Related, [this was a great article in WaPo about the hair and nails of track and field](https://www.washingtonpost.com/sports/olympics/2021/07/31/track-and-field-nails-hair/?ref=go-fug-yourself.ghost.io).)

I would never have thought of Germany as a long jump powerhouse, but they took the gold, and she was THRILLED when she won, which she did by a very small distance.

## Brittney Reese of the US

Xhtp Japan Tokyo Oly Athletics Men's 400m Hurdles Final - 03 Aug 2021

The Men's 400m hurdles was one of the most amazing races I've ever seen; the Norwegian guy JUST edged out the American, as you can see. The American, Rai Benjamin, was SO SAD about it. He broke the world record and still got silver, which has to be kind of a gut-punch. (He got a gold medal later in the relay, at least?) FIVE racers set a national record in this race! It was VERY exciting.

Here are your gold and bronze medal winners in the Women's 800 M final; Keely Hodgkinson of Great Britain took the silver, but I didn't get a snap of her for some reason. She was fast too! This was a very exciting race; you'd think the longer races would lack the thrill of the short and speedy ones, but they're so suspenseful, and it's so neat to watch people kick into their final gear on the last lap. They always look so relaxed. I would be vomiting. Athing Mu is the first American to win this race in 53 years! She's only 19!

Gotta love this look at logistics.

He took home the gold medal in the men's 800m and boy he made it look easy. I said I loved the Kenyan's outfits earlier and I still love them; that tile motif is rad.

## Paweł Fajdek (Poland)

Poland took home the gold in men's hammer throw and I find him hunky. His uniform is also very low-key and businesslike. He's just here to throw a hammer a VERY impressive distance!

## Hugues Fabrice Zango of Burkina Faso

Olympic Games 2020 Athletics, Tokyo, Japan - 05 Aug 2021

Hugues Fabrice Zango of Burkina Faso is also hunky and he (a) has a beautiful name, and (b) won his nation's first ever Olympic medal by taking the bronze here in triple jump. [This Reuters story about it is great](https://www.reuters.com/lifestyle/sports/burkina-faso-rejoices-triple-jumper-zango-delivers-first-ever-medal-2021-08-05/?ref=go-fug-yourself.ghost.io). I love this quote: "'We were really very scared. After the first two tries we were really intensely stressed, we really didn't know how things were going to go,' said Zango's brother Alex Cedric." I bet! It sounds intensely stressful!

## Katie Nageotte of the USA

Olympic Games 2020 Athletics, Tokyo, Japan - 05 Aug 2021

Katie Nageotte won gold in pole vault and pole vaulting is so impressive to me. You are using a stick to help FLING YOURSELF over a very tall OTHER stick! (It also looks extremely fun; I wish I knew how to pole vault. We did high jump in PE when I was a kid and I loved it, but they never let us pole vault. For sensible reasons.)

## Armand Mondo Duplantis of Sweden

Here's that finish from another angle. They look so close in the previous shot, but you can see that Hansle Parchment -- also a great name -- has it cold here.

This photo is cute and chaotic. The woman on Team GB whose face is covered up is going to have notes for her teammate!

## Team Netherlands in the men's 4x400 relay

The team from Botswana took the bronze, and the striped Nike kit is very soothing in this colorway. They broke the African record here! These were the first Olympic medals for Botswana and the Netherlands in this particular event.

I told you Rai would get his gold medal. Also: I enjoy how much the Americans have embraced the world of headbands this time around.

## Michael Norman, Michael Cherry, Rai Benjamin and Bryce Deadmon

These guys won the gold medal in the final of the men's 4 x 400-meter relay in thrilling fashion and this version of the uniform is soothing in how familiar and classic it is. Yay for track and field!
