Harrison Ford and Ke Huy Quan and Best Picture
THIS IS SO GREAT. As you probably know, they were in Temple of Doom together when Ke was a kid. I can't stand how much I love this. (And Spielberg, of course, was also in the house with Kate Capshaw, who is likewise in ToD. A family reunion!)
I want to cry!! This is the greatest. Ke Huy Quan seems like an absolute peach -- and he's great in the movie.
Ariana DeBose, Troy Kotsur and Ke Huy Quan
I think Ariana ALSO cried when he won? RELATABLE.
Best Documentary Feature Film
Ahem, big tone change for the folks who accepted Best Documentary Feature Film for Navalny: Daniel Roher, Odessa Rae, Diane Becker, Melanie Miller and Shane Boris, an incomplete list provided by Informative Caption. I believe the woman in red is Yulia Navalnaya, Alexi Navalny's wife, who gave a very powerful speech last night. The woman in chartreuse is his daughter Daria. This doc sounds incredible, and in less important news, everyone here looks GREAT.
John Travolta
He looks perfectly fine, although maybe a little...casual? He also was VERY emotional in introducing Lenny Kravitz to do the In Memorial section -- surely because both Kirstie Alley AND Olivia Newton John were in it. John had a tough year. (John's had a tough few years. I hope he's okay.)
Mindy Kaling, John Cho
I almost didn't notice how FOINE John Cho looks here because I was so distracted by the fact that Mindy changed into a dress that was IDENTICAL to the one she wore on the red carpet, except in black. This seems needless! It's not like the red carpet dress had a massive unwieldy train, or this was a case where she had two very different gowns and she just could not choose. IT'S THE SAME DRESS. WHAT IS HAPPENING MINDY.
Chandrabose and M. M. Keeravani
They CORRECTLY won Best Original Song award for RRR's 'Naatu Naatu,' which was a BANGER of a live performance, and they look great and seem DELIGHTFUL.
Rihanna in Maison Margiela
Someone in the Drinks With Broads live chat noted that Rihanna "loves a riser" and that is so true? I love that she looks like she's listening thoughtfully to an opponent on the presidential debate stage here. Also, great pants!
Sofia Carson
This IS beautiful, but so was her red carpet dress. Not as beautiful was the spoken word section of the Diane Warren song she performed. I'm gonna go out on a limb and say that we rarely need spoken word sections UNLESS it's Britney telling someone he shouldn't have gone down and gotten her the Heart of the Ocean.
Sofia Carson
Sofia THEN changed into this to watch from the crowd. SPOILER FOR TOMORROW: This was not her last dress of the evening. It's a good one, though.
Andie MacDowell and Hugh Grant
In this Four Weddings sequel -- WHICH WE DO NOT NEED -- Andie and Hugh are divorced and she's thriving while he continues to be sort of a charming mess.
Andrew Garfield and Florence Pugh
We've seen them both already, but Andrew Garfield's expression is so funny here. I decided Miss Flo is finally telling him everything that happened on the set of Don't Worry Darling.
Kartiki Gonsalves and Guneet Monga
Here, Kartiki Gonsalves and Guneet Monga are accepting Best Documentary Short Subject award for The Elephant Whisperers and yes, Kartiki Gonsalves's fantastic dress HAS ELEPHANTS ON IT. I'm obsessed. Guneet Monga ALSO looks superb. This was a very well-dressed pair of documentarians.
Morgan Freeman, Margot Robbie
Morgan Freeman looks like Morgan Freeman, and Margot Robbie looks gorgeous. I don't know why she didn't walk the red carpet!
Lady Gaga
Gaga pared WAY down for her performance, and honestly looks great like this. She's also the only person who really sounded GOOD during any of the singing portions of the evening. (I mean, no duh Gaga can super sing but a lot of other people felt uncharacteristically off key?)
David Byrne, Stephanie Hsu
Stephanie's dress was so dramatic -- and, props to her for going up and singing after losing. This was an extremely weird performance. I could barely hear her, and they both sounded off-key when I did. But it's hard to tell with this movie how much of that is all part of the art.
The lurking Hot Dog Fingers look so much more menacing when the lights are this way. Now it's a horror movie.
Elizabeth Banks
I hear Cocaine Bear is in the running to host next year.
