A Brief History of Gisele and Tom at the Met Gala

in Dolce & Gabbana, 2003

I know that I said this was Gisele and Tom, but thankfully, as with all women, Gisele was a fully realized human before she married a Super Bowl star and ergo she attended the Met Gala on her own. The theme here was "Goddess," and if I had to guess, I'd say the woman behind her is thinking, "FML. Why did I arrive at the same time as this person."

Sadly I couldn't find a credit for this. GOOGLE. HOW DARE YOU FAIL ME. The theme was "Anglophenia" so I'd be curious to know if it's a UK designer; otherwise, I'm not sure what exactly it's supposed to convey, other than, "Yes, This Is 75 Percent Of My Boob."

She attended with Tom this year, but cruelly, we didn't have any pictures of it in our sub. And once again I couldn't find a credit for this dress, though... would YOU take credit for it? I thought not. (This was for the Poiret gala, and he was a designer who focused more on draping than tailoring, so I guess from that perspective it works. I doubt he'd have liked how sloppy it is.)

I feel like Donatella crept back to this basic idea a season or two ago. Different fabrics and colors, but same swirls. Also, this was from the superhero gala, so obviously this entire team punted. No pun intended, Tom. And speaking of Tom...

They went with matching slicked-back hair on this night.

This was for, "The Model as Muse: Embodying Fashion," and since Gisele was "The Body" around this time, it makes sense that she got leggy. But it's otherwise so banal. Was anyone trying for the theme?

Here we have "American Woman: Fashioning a National Identity," and Gisele wore Alexander Wang, who was THE hot thing at the time. But if fashioning our national identity means looking like we wove together shredded garbage bags, then I shall pass.

This was the McQueen gala, and indeed, this is McQueen. While I am not historically a fan of hems like that, it's hard to argue with how striking this is. Plus, you can't get more on-topic than wearing the designer in question.

Also, there was kissing.

This went better.

in Givenchy

She changed it up again for the Schiaparelli/Prada/"Impossible Conversations" show by wearing something not remotely impossible, nor Prada, nor Schiaparelli. At least she looked good. But, I mean... a berry lip would've helped, right? I guess it would've gotten all over Tom's cheekbones.

For the Punk show, Gisele did manage to nail the theme in chain mail, although I don't remember that many punks offering up QUITE so much of their nether zones.

Hard to find fault here. She is glowing.

Gisele and Tom didn't attend in 2015 because the initial Deflategate investigation report was due out any day OOPS I MEAN she was in Seoul at a Chanel show. And in 2016, thet weren't there because a week earlier Brady's NFL suspension for Deflategate had just been reinstated OOPS I MEAN they went to Cuba instead. So, they're back this year now that he's on the top of the heap OOPS I MEAN because they had clear schedules. Can't wait, y'all.
