Nicole Kidman in Balenciaga

This gown has shades of Audrey Hepburn to me. It's well-made and it's elegant and it's also very straightforward and a little dull. But she just lost her mother, so I also understand not wanting to show up to this in something utterly wacky.

Awkwafina in Monique Lhuillier

This seems to be aiming for the oversize trend, but missing. It just looks... aimlessly big.

Jessica Biel in Balmain

This needs a red lip, right? I know not everyone likes that, but the dress is sharp and interesting and I think it needed SOMETHING jazzier in the makeup arena to stick the landing.

Margaret Qualley in Chanel

No no no. No. Get this woman out of Chanel's clutches immediately. She looks like a funeral at Coachella.

Marion Cotillard in Chanel

This was a nicer offering from Chanel. Not great, but... fine. Workable. And not really identifiably Chanel.

Jurnee Smollett in Chanel

Jurnee is not taking any nonsense from Chanel, and I applaud her for it.

Laura Harrier in Ludovic de Saint Sernin,

"Okay, sir, so you know how I said earlier that we ordered too many belts? We ordered WAY WAY too many belts." (Having said that, I like this version a lot better. It keeps its attitude the whole way through.)

Elizabeth Banks in Mugler

Does Mugler have an Any Old Shit diffusion line, or something? What is this?

Joe Alwyn

This looks a little too big on him to be truly stylish.

Nicholas Chavez

He plays Lyle Menendez in the Ryan Murphy show, AND he's in Grotesquerie, so Murphy must love him. His background is in soaps and he DEFINITELY has cheekbones that were made for soap opera reaction shots. He looks fine but perhaps a hair casual.

Winston Duke

Although, it's hard to compete with Winston Duke when he's doing THIS much. I appreciate every stitch of it.

Lamorne Morris

His shirt is purple but I think the suit is black? Well, we're here now. He looks good.

Patrick Schwarzenegger

... is he about to become a pro on Dancing With The Stars?

RZA

I might swap in some brogues on his feet, but otherwise, this is just jazzy enough.

Amelia Dimoldenberg in Gaultier

The dress is super on her, but this ALSO feels a teeny bit undercooked, in terms of finishing touches. I've said that a lot today.

Pamela Anderson in Loewe

Then again, Pam's whole thing is not wearing makeup anymore, so maybe I shouldn't care. But often people clearly ARE wearing makeup and just don't seem to be picking stuff that matches the ensemble. Anyway, this is a dour Loewe and it's swallowing her.

Drew Starkey

I hate so much of menswear right now, I think.

Cory Michael Smith

He's playing Chevy Chase in the current release "Saturday Night," about SNL. I have to confess that I do not like the width of his pants.

Archie Madekwe in Loewe

Sigh. It's TRYING something, but somehow simultaneously too hard and not enough.

Rege-Jean Page

Better. (Is this brown? The jacket might be actually.)

Cara Delevingne

Kicky and delish.

Peter Sarsgaard and Maggie Gyllenhaal

I thought her necklace was a detail on the dress. It IS a necklace, right? If so, it's well-chosen.

Ke Huy Quan

Hello, good sir. I'm so pleased to see you.

Paul Mescal in Gucci

I don't think that neckline really works?

John David Washington

This is just SO much sharper.

Brian Tyree Henry

He usually picks things SO much more interesting than this.

Maisy Stella

Maisy is in a movie with Aubrey Plaza right now. I am so happy to see her, but so sad this seems either too big or as if it drifted too low on her. A necklace would have helped! I am not a crackpot!

Ariana DeBose in David Koma

Well, it fits and it looks good on her! The rest... is what it is. I'm tired.

Julia Louis-Dreyfus

Love the hint of pink, but she had to pose so awkwardly all night to make sure people could see it.

Eva Longoria in Georges Hobeika, with Ricky Martin

Eva has been SUCH a joy this season on Only Murders in the Building. We are blessed. Her dress is fine -- it's the less aggressive version of...

Elizabeth Olsen

... THIS neck ruffle. Which itself looks sort of normal from the front...

... BUT NO! It's a whole shelf. It's so much built-in storage, it's practically a backpack replacement.

Karla Sofia Gascon in Saint Laurent

I love her, but she can pull off so much more than this "my colleague's wife is running for office and we have to show up to her victory party even if she loses" suit.

Marisa Abela

This is a more stylish spin on it.

Rashida Jones in Dior

I am not into the shapeless crinkly velvet Dior is peddling right now.

Charles Melton

I fear that his facial hair is silly.

Taylor Zakhar Perez

Classic for a reason.

Nicholas Hoult in Prada

Ditto, the sequel.

Quentin Tarantino in Dior

Ditto part 3: A Trilogy of Ditto.

Jeff Goldblum

And, Ditto Part 4: Quadromania.

Nicole Kidman and the League of the Basic Black Outfits

Wrapping out the Academy Gala coverage.
