I'm having trouble with this outfit, because... I don't really think I like it, and yet I like it. The color looks great on her, the pleating in the skirt is cool, and the bodice is fun. I could keep the Swiss dot sleeve, too, although I think the lace details is a touch too much. When I zoom in I see bits and bobs that might be gilding the lily, but this thing fits her gorgeously and is one of those rare custom dresses that actually appears to have paid attention to the wearer's measurements. I think it works.

This is slightly less successful -- somehow it looks like it's pushing down on her rather than bringing her up? But the top IS cool. It's like stained glass bird wings.

And this is the part where she'd changed outfits twice and was like, "Fuck it, my hair is jacked now and I'm sweaty. Topknot." I think George Michael would have appreciated the drama inherent in a mourning caftan with GIGANTIC fringed sleeves.

This photo of George standing in fire just made me giggle, in a good way. I love Adele, and I get that when Adele calls you up and says, "I need to do the George Michael tribute," you don't say no. But... Prince got a joyful one. The non-dead Bee Gees got a rollicking one. Bowie got a montage last year famously done by Gaga. This was a lesser-known George Michael song (stateside, anyway) that became a dirge in this performance; it missed the chance to touch on the more iconic things he'd done. I feel like, open with a bit of "Here I Am" for drama. Have Ed Sheeran do "Faith," have Adele do Careless Whisper, montage a couple others if you want, and then close on an all-star "Freedom '90" where all the supers from that video come out one more time together. BOOM. This made George Michael seem boring, and he just wasn't. So what's next is: We need that "We Are The World" treatment of "Freedom '90" for one or two of George's favorite charities. Or any charities. GO.

I believe this might be the EXACT moment Adele has realized she successfully pulled her Grammy in half. Her face is like, "HOLY SHIT THAT WORKED."
