This gown was designed by Helen Rose, the MGM costume designer [who also designed Grace Kelly's gown.](https://go-fug-yourself.ghost.io/royal-wedding-rewind-grace-kelly-marries-prince-rainier-1956-08-2020/) She certainly knew what she was doing. (I am also obsessed with the perfect font on the truck in the background.)

Listen, if you're going to have MGM plan your 1950 wedding, you're going to get a CLASSIC 1950 wedding gown. I do think this is undeniably pretty, and very cinematic.

Clearly, this wasn't a good marriage -- but it does look like a good party. She's eating the cake, and there's a couple making out behind her!

## Elizabeth Taylor Marries Michael Wilding, 1952

British-born actress Elizabeth Taylor marries British actor Michael Wilding at London's Caxton hall. The huge crowd mobs the happy couple after the ceremony. (Photo by PA Images via Getty Images)

This is the HUGE crowd that showed up at Caxton Hall, where Elizabeth married Michael Wilding. It was quite a chic registrar for a wedding at the time, and also hosted the weddings of Ringo Star, Orson Welles, Roger Moore, JOAN COLLINS! and Barry Gibb, among others. Anyway, this is nuts.

The Wilding Wedding Gown was also the work of Helen Rose, who obviously toned everything down to be more seemly for a second married. Oh, Helen. If you only knew!

(Original Caption) 02/22/1952-London, England- Elizabeth Taylor and Michael Wilding pose for cameras following their marriage at the Caxton Registrar's office in London. They were married in a simple ten-minute civil ceremony.

Who was this man to be so disrespectful to Elizabeth Taylor as to host strippers in their home while she was off at work! How dare you, sir!

## Elizabeth Taylor and Mike Todd Wedding, 1957

![](https://static.gofugyourself.com/uploads/2020/09/GettyImages-515026982-1600217207-scaled.jpg)

(Original Caption) Acapulco, Mexico: Movie actress Elizabeth Taylor and film producer Mike Todd were married here tonight in simple civil ceremony attended by small group of relatives and friends. Left to Francis: Mrs. Francis Taylor, the bride's mother; Liz and Mike; Enrique Parra Hernandez, a close friend of ex President Miguel Aleman; film star Debbie Reynolds, matron of honor; Mike Todd, Jr.; best man Eddie Fisher and Mexican comedian Mario Moreno, Cantinflas. Ceremony was performed by Acapulco's Mayor Mario Romero Lopestegui at the beach-side home of Fernando Parra Hernandez, Enrique's brother.

The original Informative Caption here was pleasantly useful as the old ones sometimes are: "Movie actress Elizabeth Taylor and film producer Mike Todd were married here tonight in simple civil ceremony attended by small group of relatives and friends. Left to Francis: Mrs. Francis Taylor, the bride's mother; Liz and Mike; Enrique Parra Hernandez, a close friend of ex President Miguel Aleman; film star Debbie Reynolds, matron of honor; Mike Todd, Jr.; best man Eddie Fisher and Mexican comedian Mario Moreno, Cantinflas. Ceremony was performed by Acapulco's Mayor Mario Romero Lopestegui at the beach-side home of Fernando Parra Hernandez, Enrique's brother." (a) Elizabeth looks FANTASTIC here, (b) I did not realized Debbie was Elizabeth's matron of honor, (c) Elizabeth Taylor LOVES Acapulco, she and Richard Burton hung out there all the time, (d) Mike Todd apparently set off $100,000 worth of fireworks at this wedding. I cannot even imagine how many fireworks that is in 2020 money.

Debbie Reynolds and Eddie Fisher are standing behind Todd. Cantinflas is seated at Todd's right.

This ALSO looks like a fun party, if one that everyone present looked back at and thought, "wow. Lot going on there."

(Original Caption) 2/8/1957-Acapulca, Mexico- With Mexican comedian, Mario Moreno, looking on at right, producer Mike Todd plants a kiss on the eyebrow of his bride, Elizabeth Taylor, after their wedding in Acapulco. The marriage was the third for the 24-year-old actress and the 45-year-old producer.

She looks stellar in this, and Mario Moreno AKA Cantinflas here in his cute shirt looks VERY doubtful about this. (If you're not familiar with him, [his Wiki is very interesting](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cantinflas?ref=go-fug-yourself.ghost.io); I really only knew him from Around The World in 80 Days.)

## Eddie Fisher and Elizabeth Taylor, 1959

![](https://static.gofugyourself.com/uploads/2020/09/GettyImages-514977826-1600217136-scaled.jpg)

(Original Caption) 5/6/1959-Las Vegas, NV- Crooner Eddie Fisher and betrothed actress Elizabeth Taylor huddle over last minute plans for their Las Vegas wedding Tuesday, to follow his expected divorce from Debbie Reynolds in Las Vegas Monday. Fisher and Miss Taylor plan to be united in a simple civil ceremony at the spacious ranch where she has been staying during his appearance at the Hotel Tropicana.

Informative Caption here tells that that "Crooner Eddie Fisher and betrothed actress Elizabeth Taylor huddle over last minute plans for their Las Vegas wedding Tuesday, to follow his expected divorce from Debbie Reynolds in Las Vegas Monday. Fisher and Miss Taylor plan to be united in a simple civil ceremony at the spacious ranch where she has been staying during his appearance at the Hotel Tropicana." What a totally candid and unplanned photo, with no food on the table and also no plans! (Great jewels, though, as one would hope.)

Listen, you really cannot go all out when you're in a scandalous love triangle, so I get why this was so extremely dour.

They are -- spoiler! -- extremely besotted with one another. How could you ever hope to top this, as a subsequent spouse?

That's Richard Burton's best man Jim Benton, with them. He was Burton's private secretary and in looking him up, I found [this very amazing Vanity Fair piece about Elizabeth, which I think you will quite enjoy](https://www.vanityfair.com/news/2011/08/vicky-tiel-201108?ref=go-fug-yourself.ghost.io).

But I must say, I think this dress is a little dowdy in black and white.

But this! This is the Gina Fratini dress that Elizabeth wore to marry Richard the second time, and I LOVE it. I don't have a photo of the nuptials, but [this very helpful article in Brides does -- scroll down -- and it's a hoot](https://www.brides.com/story/elizabeth-taylor-wedding-day-photos?ref=go-fug-yourself.ghost.io).

## Elizabeth Taylor, John Warner, some other Elizabeth, 1976

That article also has a snap of Elizabeth's wedding to John Warner, which I could not get for love or money (and all the places that have it on the internet have not credited where they found it). She was wearing a tweed turban! In place of that experience, though, I bring you the happy couple hanging out with the other most famous Elizabeth in the world.

And this was not at their wedding -- you can see her Valentino dress if you click through to the coverage in People I linked to -- but it IS bridal. I like it.
