As soon as I saw the safety pins, I knew this was Versace (I believe it's actually a diffusion line). It harks back to her most successful Cosmo cover, the one that ran right around the time we all decided, however briefly, that Miley might just be all right. And while I think the pins on the pants and the blazer are cheap-looking (as in, inexpensive), it IS Versace we're talking about -- Donatella specializes in cheap-looking, so as far as THAT goes, this is really just the foam on top of the discount beer.
In all, Miley looks fine. I'd have put it with more grown-up strappy shoes -- black pumps looks so clunky sometimes, and this is one of them -- but in all I appreciate what she's doing, and the break she is affording us.
I cannot, however, get behind Billy Ray trying to pretend he's a member of the Bee Gees.
So, yeah, she sang "Wrecking Ball" with a giant lip-synching cat behind her that started crying during the broken-down bridge. As one does. There are nooks and crannies and contours here that I could've lived without seeing, in addition to the fact that she seems to have put her fist through a plexiglass doorknob plate. But I will say this for her: She belts the hell out of that song in a way that suggests some very judiciously used voice lessons, and that's good, because it legitimizes her to see how routinely she can blow out that sucker.
