# America’s Next Fug Model: The Tyra So Far

The cold open this season was all about Tyra explaining how she scrapped the traditional casting episode, and then lamely blowing the only surprise of the first act, which was that they brought all the finalists somewhere thinking they'd been cut, and THEN told them they were actually standing in their new house.

To explain all this, she apparently decided to dress like Brenda Walsh meets Bugsy Malone. I keep expecting her to announce to a bunch of steel-mill-town bar patrons that her name is, like, Hugsy MyLoins, and then break into a flashdance.

This was her costume parodying various stereotypical applicants, like the dumb girl who doesn't know any designers and is blonde. I'd like to point out that Tyra has in fact cast several people like that. But she does sort of look like old-school Paris Hilton, in a way that makes me think, "Hey, you know what? Paris Hilton is totally over," and then THAT makes me happy. So by some kind of transitive property, apparently this outfit makes me happy. Who knew?

This was Tyra's approximation of the bad-ass who shows up and claims not to care about anything while actually clearly having studied all of it. She might have made me laugh a little during this part, although I cannot think of any girl in the history of ANTM who came into an audition and said -- as Tyra did here -- "I don't want to be here." So it's not the greatest parody, really. And the outfit is very Rihanna of about two or three years ago. I give her an A- for effort but a C for quality.

Apparently, this parody was of Girl Who Thinks She Is Awesome. So, not a parody.

I can never decide how I feel about colored animal print. Sometimes it might seem cute? But there's also something sort of pointless and weird about it, like pink camo or Giuliana Rancic.

This virtually guarantees that I will end up with a closet full of colored animal print in, like, two months.

Your eyes do not deceive you: To her first judging, Tyra wore a shirt with Andre Leon Talley's FACE ON IT. And because *ANTM* now does this thing where you see "candid" stuff from pre-judging (which is kind of fun), we of course got to see ALT hugging her and expressing his deep gratitude for such a wonderfully exciting gesture.

Tyra brought her nutritionist to teach the girls about healthy cheats for their diets. And she did it in a matching apron and toque the color of Easy Cheese. That feels like a conflict somehow.

In the pre-judging, ALT looked all horrified when Tyra came out, and she was like, "Honey, don't worry, I'm not wearing these FLATS with this outfit!" Do we really think it was the FLATS that were his problem?

As did this one. You know, if these two had thought to unleash these expressions during The Jumpsuit Season, maybe they could've nipped that mess in the bud.

[America’s Next Fug Model: The Tyra So FarI'm not sure Tyra Banks can ever top the season of Top Model in which she wore a different heinous jumpsuit every week. That was a remarkable achievement in fuggery, for which she might have earned herself a mighty Fug Madness seed. It remains to be seen. But that doesn't mean ANTM won't offer its share of fashion crimes; before fresh material comes via tonight's new episode, I thought I'd catch you up on what Tyra's worn so far -- and what Andre Leon Talley apparently plans to wear every WEEK.
