To put it mildly, Andrew lived rather lavishly in San Diego.

This detail was interesting: The bed he "shared" with Norman is portrayed as being one king frame with two separate pads unrolled onto it. That not only looks uncomfortable but seriously precludes any spontaneous nooky.

The show puts Lee Miglin at this party, for the purpose of having everyone pose for a photo together -- and also probably to try and further connect Andrew, Miglin, and Miglin's son Duke, who lived in California and who denies rumors that he knew Cunanan. [But Vulture says that photo, and Miglin's presence, were both inventions](https://www.vulture.com/2018/02/acs-versace-fact-check-episode-6.html?ref=go-fug-yourself.ghost.io).

No one can find this photo, though. It really does SEEM constructed solely for the show, because of course guess what Andrew does with it...

I mean. This is way too on-the-nose. We already know he killed all those people. I don't think a guy who pulled the wool over everyone's eyes as long as Andrew did would have casually made a Murder List and exed out the faces of his future victims. Especially because, at this point, what the hell would he have had against Lee Miglin anyway? The show EARLIER mostly tried to suggest Andrew had sought him out because he needed money and cover.

I always want you to be able to see the decor. Here, it's a couch that looks like it was built out of watermelon-colored Twinkies.

Andrew here was waiting for David to arrive at the fancy hotel, and he totally stage directed it so that he would ascend the stairs and find Andrew peacocking in this pose. All to look impressive. Whether it's true or not, it's a nice psychological touch.

![](https://static.gofugyourself.com/uploads/2018/03/assassination-gianni-versace-recap-finale-gfy-7-1521764920.jpg)

There is also a makeover montage while he gets David into a matching suit.

![](https://static.gofugyourself.com/uploads/2018/03/assassination-gianni-versace-recap-finale-gfy-8-1521764930.jpg)

Cody Fern was good in his showcase episode, but he's felt very small in all the others, and I think it's because Finn Wittrock is so good and hot. I buy him more as David, the guy whose strapping charisma would've reeled in Cunanan so hard, and turned him into this jealous monster, and I buy THIS guy more as Jeff. It's why I kept mixing up their names.

Andrew goes running to his mother when Norman kicks him out, before he eventually leaves to kill Jeff and David -- which he tells her is him returning to his fancy job doing costumes for operas. She is *so* devastatingly willing to believe it. She even tells him a story about how Andrew's least favorite person from high school has turned out to be a big fat nothing, and how wonderful it was for her to run into that kid's mother and brag about everything Andrew has done.

A pause to note what a great job they did casting the role of Gianni. Ramirez is great, and he looks SO right.

![](https://static.gofugyourself.com/uploads/2018/03/assassination-gianni-versace-recap-finale-gfy-11-1521764957.jpg)

Here's P.Cruz [in the infamous dress](https://nypost.com/2018/01/13/why-producers-scrubbed-versaces-niece-out-of-american-crime-story/?ref=go-fug-yourself.ghost.io). She and Ramirez have a tiny bit of sexual chemistry, which made their scenes together making the dress -- and styling it on her body -- feel a little weird. What can you do?

![](https://static.gofugyourself.com/uploads/2018/03/assassination-gianni-versace-recap-finale-gfy-14-1521764991.jpg)

Gianni, of course, later has a tantrum when Donatella suggests that people aren't buying the dress because they want to see a scaled-down version in the stores. "TWO DESIGNS?" he squawks. So yeah, I guess they're implying Donatella invented the idea of diffusing your line for shoppers? Sure.

![](https://static.gofugyourself.com/uploads/2018/03/assassination-gianni-versace-recap-finale-gfy-17-1521765026.jpg)

This show is a LOT of P.Cruz looking deeply skeptical, when she's not trying to pronounce words around... I mean, maybe it's her real voice and I've just never heard her speak, but it REALLY sounds like they put in a dental piece or just asked her to assume a heavy lisp.

![](https://static.gofugyourself.com/uploads/2018/03/assassination-gianni-versace-recap-finale-gfy-12-1521764967.jpg)

I always want to share elaborate ceilings with you.

![](https://static.gofugyourself.com/uploads/2018/03/assassination-gianni-versace-recap-finale-gfy-16-1521765016.jpg)

I mean. HIDEOUS. (I do wish it weren't lit here like the ceiling of Hell, though.)

![](https://static.gofugyourself.com/uploads/2018/03/assassination-gianni-versace-recap-finale-gfy-13-1521764979.jpg)

Annaleigh Ashford is a very calming presence. She was so NICE to Andrew. It's strange that she never saw through him, but they make the choice for Andrew to seem a LOT more real in the scenes with her. Probably because she knew his upbringing, to a point, so she is probably the person who had the best and realest sense of him.

![](https://static.gofugyourself.com/uploads/2018/03/assassination-gianni-versace-recap-finale-gfy-15-1521765007.jpg)

I have REPEATEDLY mistaken the gold painted squares on the walls of this hotel set for Post-It Notes, and wondered why David Madson would go inside when Andrew has INSANE MURDER NOTES all over the walls.

![](https://static.gofugyourself.com/uploads/2018/03/assassination-gianni-versace-recap-finale-gfy-18-1521765035.jpg)

Meet Modesto and Young Andrew, who are exceedingly well cast as father and son. That little kid excels at angelic facial expressions, and he looks at his father here with SUCH trust.

![](https://static.gofugyourself.com/uploads/2018/03/assassination-gianni-versace-recap-finale-gfy-19-1521765045.jpg)

The show has always made an effort to style Andrew's rooms as VERY spare and empty. That always seemed to point to him having nothing. Here, he has the master suite, but still very little in it, which might also be a visual cue that the trappings of his life were all illusory -- his father's success, his father's money, and even his father's love, which eventually becomes a doorway to molestation -- and that he eventually grew up believing he WAS nothing.

![](https://static.gofugyourself.com/uploads/2018/03/assassination-gianni-versace-recap-finale-gfy-21-1521765065.jpg)

This dude is a high-school partygoer with a crush on Andrew, who a) looks 35, and b) looks SO MUCH like Rainn Wilson in a wig.

![](https://static.gofugyourself.com/uploads/2018/03/assassination-gianni-versace-recap-finale-gfy-22-1521765075.jpg)

This is Andrew's saucy red jumpsuit. It's VERY Michael Jackson in the *Bad* era. Darren Criss summons his inner Hedwig to STRUT in that thing straight into this house party, where he proceeds to make sure he's the center of attendion dancing to "Whip It." (This is where he meets Annaleigh, who dances with him because she sees people scoffing rather than appreciating him the way he intended.)

![](https://static.gofugyourself.com/uploads/2018/03/assassination-gianni-versace-recap-finale-gfy-23-1521765086.jpg)

Dan Rather makes a cameo, as the show uses real news broadcasts from the night of Versace's murder. Also, that coffee table is SO of-an-era, and that era is actually the 80s.

This is Andrew's triumphant flop onto a deckchair. I don't know why he didn't try to flee immediately, honestly. Imagine if he hadn't stuck around town as long as he did. NOT that I was rooting for that, but it's odd that he kept going and going every time and then suddenly here just crashed. It makes you wonder.

![](https://static.gofugyourself.com/uploads/2018/03/assassination-gianni-versace-recap-finale-gfy-28-1521765132.jpg)

Specifically, Schmidt gets a whole speech here to the police about how Andrew Cunanan isn't running away; he's trying to be seen, noticed, acknowledged. It's framed by how the cops in Miami, he says, treated the HIV-afflicted community like it was invisible and just let them all fade away into death. It was an interesting speech more about Miami culture in that era than about Andrew, but it's an interesting thought that maybe Cunanan couldn't stand to keep running because he wanted to stop and see what he wrought. He wanted to see people see him. And then, too late, realized what that meant.

Judith Light gets to come back for two scenes as Marilyn Miglin, and she's great, as are her enormous wigs.

![](https://static.gofugyourself.com/uploads/2018/03/assassination-gianni-versace-recap-finale-gfy-26-1521765113.jpg)

I thought you might want to see the leafy wallpaper.

![](https://static.gofugyourself.com/uploads/2018/03/assassination-gianni-versace-recap-finale-gfy-27-1521765124.jpg)

Mama Cunanan watches the news reports with a blanket over her head. I feel you, Mama. It's horrifying.

![](https://static.gofugyourself.com/uploads/2018/03/assassination-gianni-versace-recap-finale-gfy-29-1521765141.jpg)

This is the "houseboat," by the way, which is really a two-story townhouse floating on water.

![](https://static.gofugyourself.com/uploads/2018/03/assassination-gianni-versace-recap-finale-gfy-31-1521765159.jpg)

And that's Ricky Martin's bedroom, which is very subtle, as one might expect from a Versace house.

![](https://static.gofugyourself.com/uploads/2018/03/assassination-gianni-versace-recap-finale-gfy-32-1521765168.jpg)

Donatella goes to the crypt to light a candle for her brother, except it turns out to be like 100 candles, which feels like a LOT of work. No disrespect to her grief, but.

![](https://static.gofugyourself.com/uploads/2018/03/assassination-gianni-versace-recap-finale-gfy-33-1521765177.jpg)

This shot of her looking into a mirror, which is warping her face, made me laugh. Not because I'm glad she's sad, but because it actually makes Penelope Cruz look MORE like the real Donatella.

![](https://static.gofugyourself.com/uploads/2018/03/assassination-gianni-versace-recap-finale-gfy-34-1521765187.jpg)

I assume Intern George has a balcony just like this, and he stands there sad and alone and pondering the emptiness of his life without two bloggers to serve.

![](https://static.gofugyourself.com/uploads/2018/03/assassination-gianni-versace-recap-finale-gfy-35-1521765196.jpg)

And that's Donatella's living room, artfully staged so that as soon as her dude enters, the curtains blow beautifully into the space. I love that ceiling. If one must grieve, do it artistically.
