Jessica Brown Findlay

Spreading out the skirt is a nice try, but this is SUCH a snore. She looks like a widowed schoolmarm, whose story is as tragic as her bodice.

Joanne Froggatt

Joanne here is a very pretty girl, and certainly this doesn't look BAD on her, but it's also about as interesting as an entire episode about how that scheming O'Brien gets her bangs to do that. Wait, never mind, that would be a totally interesting episode. How DOES she get her bangs to do that? How early does she have to get up? Does she really have the time for a lengthy visit with a curling iron?

So I guess... what I'm saying is, O'Brien's bangs are actually more interesting than Anna's blue dress. And that if you don't watch Downton, you're going to need to start. Even with all the buzz, which can be off-putting, you will not be sorry.

Elizabeth McGovern

This is my favorite of all these, but it MIGHT not fit her quite right. And it'd be so much more amazing in a color -- Elizabeth McGovern has those EYES, those tremendous eyes. This is working, though. I just am wishing my Photoshop trickery extended to color changes. I did it once with a Dianna Agron dress that was white to begin with, but that taxed me to my already low limits.

In sum, I think McGovern is doing fine, but Froggatt and especially Findlay AND DOCKERY WHITHER DOCKERY need a high fashion guardian angel.

BAFTAs Feh Carpet: The Ladies of Downton
I have questions. First and foremost, why isn't Michelle Dockery at the BAFTAs? We had hoped the answer was that she was following her Letterman appearance late last week with a bunch of Fashion shows, but alas, we've yet to see her in the front row anywhere. Second: Why isn't Michelle Dockery in the front row anywhere? This girl is for real now. She is, as Victoria Beckham would say, major. She's going to be all over the place soon enough, so designers should be tripping over themselves to get her in their camp. And third: How come these other ladies aren't rocking something unusual and fabulous? It's not that Anna and Cora look BAD, per se, but it's a bit samey. And Sybil! SYBIL. YOU CANNOT. And whither Edith? Seriously, Downton Fever is a thing now. Several of the early shows we saw were very Lady Mary Crawley. And since nobody's putting Mr. Bates in any froofy Oscar de la Renta, they'd better get on Mary and these other lasses. They can't do it alone, and by "it" I will eventually mean "the Emmys," or in breakout star Dockery's case, I suspect, the Met Ball. Or possibly, because it would be incredibly entertaining, one of those fake awards shows on MTV. That's a lot of outfits. Hop to it, clothiers. [Photos: Getty]
