Technically Yara's first role was in an episode of Entourage; this was probably the first REALLY big thing that happened in her acting career, though. And LOOK WHAT A CUTE MUFFIN. She would've been nine here.

Also adorable. Sometimes I'm sad that I'll never need to shop for little girl clothes for a daughter. Then I remember there are other conversations I also won't have to have, and I feel a little better.
Sidebar: JENNIFER WHAT ARE THOSE SHOES. I'm glad the mega-platforms are a thing of the past. I also find it charming that she's so scandalized by whatever she thinks Yara might hear at this press conference for Butter. Maybe they were reading the reviews out loud. ZING.

I know she's mostly just giving Yara a kiss, but it does seem like Jennifer is overly concerned at all times about what might be seeping into Yara's ears.

This is so kitschy, and she's making it work in that glorious 15-year old way. This experiment is so much more interseting to me than the Miley/Bella Thornes of the world who just want to shock people.

That blazer is great (I think we just saw its match, or sibling, on Ellie Goulding at one of the Jingle Balls). We saw those shoes a few slides ago, too, so clearly her regular sitcom gig wasn't precluding her from normal human shoe attachments.

She's re-wearing these, too. Bravo. Also, this dress fits her wonderfuly, and is an EXTREMELY difficult color that she's wearing with aplomb.

All right, well, the shoes look like they are made of twine and/or straw. I veto them. But the dress is DELIGHTFUL.

That's got to be the perfect venue for this. While the coat is clearly meant to go with it, both together MIGHT be an overly frosted cake? I can't decide. But I would love them both separately, and I'm awfully fond of them together, so: win.

All right, this is a bit bonkers. But it's made for a girl that age and an event by Disney, so you certainly can't blame a girl for trying.

This is my second-favorite thing she's worn all year. It's such a vision. And with that last sentence, I just aged 60 years.
Yara Shahidi
This has a free, youthful bent to it that is a great reminder that she's only 16. Amazing to see this kind of poise and identity already. Long may she reign.
