Apparently those aren't feathers; they're hand-crafted to look like they are. I veer back and forth from really liking this, to wondering if the waist is too low. I think it's a small quibble considering how much Chanel is improving generally.

Alaia's current designer just stepped down, and this is custom, so this is one of his last new works for that line that we'll see. And it's... sort of a thud. I don't mind the shape of it from the front; it kind of evokes the famous Marilyn photo of her skirt blowing around...

... except Marilyn's skirt had a back. This, from the side, looks like a tutu that's throwing up. (Jess said it reminds her of Bjork's swan dress without the swan part and that made me laugh.)
