# Black Was the Color of the Night at the HCA Awards

Every time this event occurs, I have to Google it to find out what it actually is -- maybe not a great sign for them? -- and this go round, I discovered this [on its Wikipedia page:](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hollywood%5FCritics%5FAssociation?ref=go-fug-yourself.ghost.io)

> On August 30, 2022, [*The Hollywood Reporter* reported](https://www.hollywoodreporter.com/news/general-news/hollywood-critics-association-resignations-scandal-1235203418/?ref=go-fug-yourself.ghost.io) that nine of the group's members had recently resigned, "roughly 7 percent of its membership tally just two weeks ago" as a result of one member's actions and ultimate removal "for violating numerous HCA bylaws, including harassment, bullying, slander, sharing member-only information with non-members and breaking the code of conduct."

Speaking of not a great sign! That THR story is a *corker.* In case you don't believe me, here's part of its lede:

> In recent days, the saga has come to resemble a cross between a Christopher Guest comedy and *All About Eve*, featuring Hollywood strivers, showmanship and, in the views of some, possible swindling.

Swindling! My brows kept getting higher and higher as I read the whole thing. It is WILD. Given everything outlined in this piece, I guess we should be impressed that this event happened at all. Let's see what people wore?
