Back in 2009, it took Maya Rudolph pretending to shit explosively in the middle of the street for people to come out and acknowledge that women can be funny. I found that depressing for a lot of reasons -- do we *have* to take shits in strange places to prove ourselves? -- but this movie did at least teach the world at large how funny Melissa McCarthy is, and that Rose Byrne can do comedy. Their scenes together in *Spy* are true delights. Also, this slideshow made me realize that I miss Kristen Wiig. I did not always love her SNL sketches, but even when I was tired of them, she could make me snort just by committing to a particular facial expression. And her complete commitment to this random gag is just... otherworldly:

You do not even need Jonah Hill for that to elicit a snicker.
