British Royal Christmases of the Past

So, obviously, it is VERY Yore, when it comes to Days of Yore, since that's King George VI with Princesses Elizabeth and Margaret, and the Queen Mum appears to be absolutely DRAPED in velvet, a life choice I do support.

Informative Caption here is VERY Informative and also uses the weird style of capitalization you see in Informative Captions from the 60s, which I suspect had to do with the wire service of the time or some such: "Members Of The Royal Family Leave St George's Chapel Windsor This Morning After Attending Christmas Service There. In Foreground Queen Elizabeth II Holds The Hand Of Her Youngest Son Prince Edward As She Talks To Her Husband Prince Philip. Behind Prince Edward Is Prince Philip [sic; must be Andrew?] With His Grandmother Queen Mother Elizabeth While His Sister Princess Anne Shakes Hands With An Unidentified Prelate. In Front Of Prince Charles Talking To A Prelate Of Kent With Their Children The Earl of St Andrews And The Lady Helen Taylor." All I can add to this is that Anne's coat is FANTASTIC and the Queen's hat is absolutely bananas.

Here, Informative Caption let me know that "Snow Dropping From The Roof Causes Merriment For The Children." Please just ignore Andrew here and in the rest of the photos. I am here for Diana's shiny boots!

Diana was really into a ruff in 1985, and Informative Caption had FEELINGS: "The Russian Look Was A Hit With The Royal Family On Christmas Morning. A Hussar Hatted Princess Diana Led The Fashion Parade At The Traditional Holiday Service In St George's Chapel Windsor With A Stunning Blue Cossack Type Suit Softened By Classic Feminine Touches Like A Pie Crust Collar And Fur Muff......royalty." That massive amount of ellipsis followed by the lower-letter "royalty" just really made me chuckle for some reason. Anyway, Diana looks fab (and very 1985) and Anne for sure still owns that outfit.

THIS IS A LOOK! The little girl is Lady Rose Windsor, who is the youngest daughter of the Duke and Duchess of Gloucester, so she is Charles's....cousin.

This is technically Harry heading off to his school nativity play, but I could not resist this one. What a cheeky noodle.

There are some HATS here but the real obvious winner is Tiny Zara's Stuffed Animal Bag, chicly slung around her neck.

1988

Tiny Prince William also loves it, and Informative Caption here has theorized that what I thought was a handbag was actually a muff.

Here's the whole look in color; I would NOT have guessed that Tiny Wills's coat was burgundy and I hope we eventually see it on Charlotte. Diana's hat could definitely take out someone's eye if needed. And Anne HAS ABSOLUTELY worn that recently, I recognize it, and I need her to explain to me how she's warded off the scourge of closet moths.
