Awkwafina won a Gotham Independent Film Awards for *The Farewell*, beating out Florence Pugh for *Midsommar*, Alfre Woodard for *Clemency*, Mary Kay Place for something called *Diane*, and Elisabeth Moss for the atrociously named *Her Smell*. Whether that's enough for her to rep the indies at the Oscars, I don't know; she did NOT get nominated for an Independent Spirit Award, despite the movie being recognized, so who knows. But I'm rooting for this to happen for Nora Lum, something I never would have predicted when we was working the VMAs red carpet for *Cosmo* and she co-hosted it with the *Girl Code* people. The world is a magical surprise sometimes.
