But I really DON'T dislike this. I promise. It IS cheerful. It's young. Fitting, as SHE is young -- as she often appears as if she's walking the red carpet with a heavy weight on her heart, it's easy to forget Mia is only 22\. And this is a totally appropriate thing for a 22-year old girl to wear when she's promoting her work at on the French Riviera. Toenail polish? Yes. I wish for it. A touch more lippy? Maybe. But at least I'm not worried she's going to toss herself in the drink.

I kind of like this, too -- the makeup, the hair, and the plum color. Something about the front feels a LITTLE like it's cut to be the other way around, but for the most part it's a step forward for her.

Also, I was looking at these pictures... something about this angle felt Winslet-y to me. Does anyone else get that vibe? Is it the bearing? The hair? I don't even know. But it's there. Also,I like Mia with the softer hair. It's remarkably DIFFERENT hair than the one she had earlier in the day, so I can't tell... I mean, I guess maybe she ironed it out for the photocall, and it's curly with a hairpiece in the back here? I don't know. But: The styling is great on her.

I threw this in at the end because it's cute, and also, holy hell, she looks fourteen. But in a good way. Smiling is good, people. I of all people understand a smile phobia. I find my face very frustrating in photographs. And sometimes in general. But i still DO IT. Because looking pleasant is generally better than looking like you want to murder someone. Ugly photos of me smiling are more passable to me than when Jess and I do one of those talking-head TV shows and my "listening calmly without reaction" face comes across like I'm coming up with ways to cook her liver. I wish celebs felt that way. Maybe the tide will turn. Come on, Mia. Smile it up.
