Zoe Saldana

I officially love the dress here. But what's throwing me off from a wholehearted Well Played is the hair -- something about the half-up style is only ENHANCING the pinafore vibe, and doesn't look as polished and adult and dreamy I want this whole thing to be. Because that gown has really won my heart.

Zoe Saldana

My favorite thing about this outfit is that if you only ever saw this picture of it, you'd come away with an entirely different idea about it than what is true. But the other reason to show it to you is that she's smiling, which Zoe doesn't do a ton of on the red carpet, which is a damn shame. So: SMILES. Hooray. Well played for THAT.

And then she turns fully frontal and BOOM, there is a surprise chef's hat on her right arm and a more bandage-y motif than I realized before. I still... like it, I think? But I wish the skirt played it straight and let the top just do its thing. However, the orange shoes are a massive yes. How many other actresses would've worn this with a) nude, or b) clunky white shoes? Or even clunky black ones? Orange is the most delicious splash.

And, we needed that splash to carry us through this photo and prevent us from sliding into a deep depression. This isn't BAD, exactly, but it's sort of a bummer. It WAS the first thing she wore, though, so maybe she just had jet lag. Yes. Let's call it that and then wash that bummer right out of our hair with a close-up of the orange pumps.

Orange droolius, AM I RIGHT.

And, let's bring it full circle, because a) I love the way this dress looks from behind as she navigated the stairs, and b) Clive Owen and Marion Cotillard seem so THOROUGHLY delighted by whatever is going on that I've imagined that Zoe Saldana was entertaining her co-stars by reciting lines from Center Stage and/or pretending she thought she was at Cannes for a Crossroads 11th anniversary tribute.

Cannes Fabs and Feh: Zoe Saldana
When this was shown during Paris Fashion Week, I wrote that it was gorgeous but "a bit eau de pinafore," and that I'd be curious to see if it worked in real life (read: the red carpet, which is the realest context any of these things ever see). Well, curiosity sated. Happily. (Mostly.) [Photos: Getty]
