Cate Blanchett

Cannes is where I learned that Cate is in "How To Train Your Dragon 2." I LOVED the first one -- hi, Toothless! -- so I hope the second is worthy. I also think that dress is a nifty choice. The texture evokes scales, but in a really stunning way.

Scales, and breathed fire, and... it's perfect for the event, without being at ALL kitschy. She looks great.

And she loves Toothless. SO DO I. We're soulmates.

A closer look at the texture, her face, and her earrings, all of which bring the yes.

This is fabulous on her, too. DELICIOUSLY disco, and the flower necklace is so cool on her. I also enjoy how discordant that big ol' ring is on her finger, and it's so large that I'm not concerned about her naked wrists. NAB is not an unbending principle.

Close up, I think that shirt is cool in a way that, again, only she could do. It looks like an Andy Warhol-inspired pop-art cartoon of a bloody chest cracking open, and yet I like it, partly because Everyone Looks Hotter In Sunglasses.

And then we pull out, and the top has volume that's interesting, but the pants look like she's a flight attendant who had to borrow a friend's uniform.

Seriously, I think they need to be a slimmer, fitted cut. Or a pencil skirt. WHY wasn't this a pencil skirt?!? Something snug to offset the tenting of the top and let that be the showpiece, rather than giving us something to fret about.

This is the Valentino from the other day, when I missed that she is wearing SHRIMP EARRINGS. Oh, Kate. I WILL throw some on the barby. Just because of you.
