If you're going to do a two-piece dress, this is at least an interesting twist on it. I think I like the color combination...? And it's... different, at least? Really, this what I call an ellipsis dress -- meaning, when I try to pinpoint my feelings about it, there are lots of "..." all over the place.
And when she turns around, there's a little keyhole in the back where the detail stops, like somebody poked her really hard and it fell off. I don't know. I don't hate Emma's dress, at all, but I am not going to fall asleep at night with visions of it dancing in my head, either. And now since I am tantalizing you with Claire Julien's cutout dress, let's take a proper look at that next.
This dress, I think is really quite nifty. I'm almost surprised Emma Watson isn't wearing it -- not that it was on the table for her, necessarily, but looking at it, there's something very her about it. Or even the other Emma (Stone; sorry, Roberts). This is pretty advanced for a newbie. My only preference would be to put a really bright shoe with it -- nothing too strappy, but a fun color that keeps it daytimey but peps it up a little.
Needs better lipstick and a cuter black shoe. She should dip into her big sister Vera's makeup drawer -- I feel like she has a whole BUNCH of bright lipsticks she could've loaned for the occasion.
Super cute. I think she's only 17 or 18, too, so her poise is impressive too.
This works. It feels sort of French Hipster to me, and since she's also living in France right now, that sounds about right.
This is nice, although there's something about it that's a TOUCH off for me. Like maybe I feel like she just wrapped part of her cabana around her bathing suit.
And the back view... pretty, but also pretty bathing-suit.
And from THIS view it's all bunchy around the pelvis, perhaps because it has pockets, but also, I know she was bending down and blowing a lot of kisses. If your Cannes dress can't stand up to you bending down and blowing everyone kisses, then maybe you didn't choose super wisely, because Cannes is ALL ABOUT people bending down and blowing everyone kisses.
This affords us a look at Katie Chang's dress, though, which... i don't think is as effective on her as the one from earlier. It's Dior, and people have been wearing the HELL out of Dior so far so maybe they were tapped out by the time her name came up.
Sofia looks exactly like herself -- in a good way -- and Taissa Farmiga, on the right, is in a Valentino that... is not the worst Valentino I have ever seen, but doesn't do anything for me, either. Or more to the point, might not be doing anything for her. But it's interesting, and I give her points for that. And Claire Julien on the left is wearing a custom Pucci, which... is she the one everyone is excited about, or something? Because that seems like two nice pulls in a row for her, and for one of them to be custom...
... and for it to be THIS much dress, well, somebody out there must love her. That train is great; I don't love the cat-scratches on her hips, but it IS a movie about teen cat burglars, so maybe she was just being REALLY REALLY thematic.
