Not Actually Rooney Mara

You might think the hat is the first thing I want to discuss, but no. Look below. Are those... bike shorts poking out underneath the jacket-dress? Are they Spanx? They DO seem becrotched, so it's got to be one or the other. Listen, you're in France, and I know the French are associated with biking and mimes and sullen mystery, but you don't have to try and hit all three bullseyes in one go.

I can't tell if this is a jumpsuit or very well-concealed separates (there seem to be belt loops?), but whatever the deal: The pants portion is so terrible and baggy that the rest of it doesn't have much chance. Also, the top does kind of look like a nun who's trying to wriggle out of her wimple the hard way.

This is... fine. It might even be pretty. But I hate the satin platform sandals. They are so clunky that they look unsophisticated to me.

The look of the pockets from this angle is intriguing, but I'm thrown off by the giant restraint locking down her chest. It's too high to be a belt or a cummerbund. What would one call it? A sternumbund? A mammarbund? A mistake?

And here it is from the side, looking a bit more sack-like.

Rooney Mara

This is about as personality-free as it gets, other than maybe the oxford-style shoes, so.... it is hard to have thoughts, except that these people exude the glow and chemistry of two actors who simply adored working together and can't wait to share the fruits of their collaboration with the world.

Cannes Fugs and Fines: Rooney Mara
At this point I want to slip the Pantone book under her hotel room door with the note, "RECONSIDER." NOTE: This first pic is not Rooney. I fell for the incorrect caption because of the hat. I figured it skewed things in pics but that in person they would have known it was her. Not so! But I am leaving the pic because the outfit is dumb. [Photos: Getty]
