Carrie won American Idol in 2005, so she really did assert herself in this genre pretty quickly. That show's track record is spotty, in terms of longevity, but occasionally America really did get it right. Her dress is is exactly what you'd see in a department store at this time, but I'm impressed she is wearing serious heels with it, because 2006 could have done way worse in that department.

These shoes should be gold or that orange-red, but otherwise, how ADORABLE is this? I don't know why these awards look like wrestling prize belts, though.

This could be worse! It's definitely not as cheesy as she gets at other shows.

I kind of dig this. It looks like she flipped up part of the skirt and turned it into a vest, but... in a way that works.

This is a complete scrolldown. We're all fine and dandy and then she's wearing lead boots.

This is Gwyneth Paltrow peddling shoddy supplements to retirees in 2030.

Lovely and breezy.

Why don't I like this better? It reminds me of those toys where kids use magnets to make lead shavings move around a board.

I feel like I've seen a bunch of Kindle covers on sale in this exact pattern. But it's a good dress on her, even if she does seem deeply underwhelmed by herself.

Too late, she realized she cannot walk, for fear of showing her underwood.

And THIS is really good -- her best stuff in here is when she's a little more relaxed? -- but she has WAY overdone the self-tanning lotion. Still, on the whole: For a perennial Fug Madness contender, she did pretty well in this slideshow. Color me shocked.
