Cate, this tunic is just so bad. Truly, this photo goes to show how good Elizabeth Stewart has been for her. Cate clearly has off-the-wall instincts, and Stewart has figured out how to funnel that into stuff that's GLAMOROUSLY unusual (by and large), rather than just... this. In fairness, 21 years ago this was more on-trend, but the sheerness and beigeness of it all.... no.

Flared velvet trousers! It's fascinating to see Cate on a budget (perhaps), given that we know her now as someone who is very expensively attired even when it's casual. It's like I forget she was ever an up-and-comer.

This is one of those Armani designs that I feel they made with either her or Nicole Kidman in mind, and sure enough. It's very glamorous.

So, Cate went in 2018 for A Star Is Born and Suspiria, and in 2019 for Joker. As she is not in any of those movies, I assume she was there because Armani asked her to go and rep its wares on the red carpet. But maybe she secretly was campaigning really hard for that 2020 jury spot. I do love this dress, so maybe it worked.

This is a McQueen re-wear, sort of; the top appeared in 2016 but with a skirt. Which do you prefer? I came down on preferring the overall styling of the 2016 version, but can't deny that with the draped jacket this looked pretty cool.
