Janelle Monae is SO GOOD at this.

She really knows how and when to deploy formal capes and ponchos, so that it always seems fresh and exciting rather than repetitive. She's just got pizzazz, is the thing. And the same shoes as Amanda Seyfried, but at least they're GOOD shoes and not those monotonous one-straps that infected every proceeding for a year or two. Honestly, right at this moment, if I could raid anyone's formal closet it might genuinely be hers.
