I only had the side view. I gather it's because the deep back was more revolutionary then, but I've never been that into the ruching being RIGHT in line with ass crack.

I found a credit saying this is Christina Perrin. It feels very Recent Versace to me, and actually it looks REALLY good on Charlize. Imagining that at the time it was a much newer concept... I'm on board.

She really is lovely. I wish I couldn't see her nipples. This all feels like a junior version of stuff people did better later. The slit is messy, and the cat-scratch is lined with something that's wrinkling.

These jeans. You see them on Charlize and it makes you understand why we all tried to wear them too, but HOW did I not notice that I am not SHAPED like Charlize.

... and here we have our first major sign of trouble. This is why hoarders exist, by the way. If she'd kept this, she could wear it now and Twitter would be like, "Charlize Just SLAYED Bra Shirts."

The rails are over yonder; we are now off of them. I guess this is before people realized they could get jeans hemmed, just like regular pants. But I do think we'd all realized that hanging suspenders were lame.

I don't know if this is the actual beginning of her Dior association, but it's the first Dior I know about her wearing. She looks really pretty in it, but there's also a heavy dose of Little Girl Coyly Gazing While Strap Of Her Lingerie OOPS Slips Down Her Shoulder. I'm less patient with that shit now that I'm an old crank.

Again, the cut of this dress is enormously Of Its Time. Her head looks great. Her nipples presumably also do.

I would have LOVED this with entirely different makeup, and in a color -- or, honestly, even more of an off-white. This taupe is bumming me out. It looks dirty. Overall, it's one of the iconic Charlize looks that I don't think has earned its place in that pantheon.

This is funky and art-deco. She doesn't wear much in the way of patterns, and she should.

I believe this is also Dior, probably from that same collection as the yellow one. I like it much, much less. No lady's body should want to get tied up in MULTIPLE knots like that.

And ANOTHER Dior. I get that the bunchy thing is what the dress is apparently going for, but wow, what a waste of a great color. Also the bodice looks like she put shoulder pads over her boobs.

Okay, we're in bed with Dior now. I REALLY do not/did not like this one. The brown color on the red carpet was fairly revolutionary -- other than Amy Adams for one of her *Junebug* nominations, you hardly see it -- but for me it's the cut I don't love.

And here we're toppling into the worst Dior abyss. I would take the pink one any day. It wasn't THAT bad; I just didn't like the big poof in the front, and the bland styling. But this is so awful. It's not even an adept version of this aesthetic.

However, this is among the best of Dior. It's short, and it's got see-through bits, but it fits well and it's glamorous as hell. Love it or hate it, at least it tries to meet the high level of what Charlize Theron can serve.

I liked this at the time. I'm more underwhelmed by it now? Not because it's bad. I think I just -- as usual -- want lipstick. But at least it fits, and her hair is always sassy in the pixie.

I hope this dress is in the midst of sprouting gold feathers. The shoulders are almost TOO much more interesting than the rest.

THIS Dior isn't as good as the blue sparkly one, which is similar, but it's still pretty damn strong.

We liked this more than most of Fug Nation. Looking at this slideshow, I still think I am on board -- though it's not near the top of my list -- but her makeup does feel like it was meant for a different gown.
