Rami is 35 now, so he was about 24 here, starring on a sitcom called "The War At Home" on FOX. And here is the synopsis: "This witty, irreverent show goes inside the heads of a modern family through the use of a confessional space..." The words "modern family" are even right in there. Goes to show that it takes more than a premise sometimes to make a hit; it's also timing and writing and a hundred other tiny factors.
ANYWAY, this is just one of the Wayback Machine pictures I like to use. We can't really see what he's wearing, but we can admire the groovy backdrop.

This was the premiere of HBO's "The Pacific." He doesn't smile with his teeth very often on Mr. Robot, so I thought you'd enjoy this.

Enter MTV. He's so Young Heartthrob in this picture. The tie and clip are cool; you can see here the hints of an interesting fashion sense developing.

Clean and simple and classy.

Did you know he's in Twilight: Breaking Dawn, Part 2? WELL HE IS. He plays one of the vampires who comes from afar just to say bon soir and to the king (Michael Sheen) casse toi. (There is a Hamilton ref for everything.)

Okay, now we're cooking with gas. (And mustard.) The pants don't look like they're hemmed quite right, but I love that he's squeezing in some personality here.

I am going to need a ruling on this. I think the pants are... somehow problematic but I can't quite put my finger on how. I appreciate the thought, though.

When it comes to casualwear, he fears no hat, nor scarf, nor European Carryall.

I really like this jacket. I love snappy jackets on a guy.

I need ANOTHER ruling: Is this the same suit from three slides ago, where I first asked for a ruling? It's at least the same jacket, right? I think this version of it looks better. Did he fix the pants? What's the deal? Help me puzzle it out, Fug Nation.

I've decided I want these two to date.
Props to Rami for succeeding at the double-breasted suit coat, which is not easy. The shirt underneath makes me think of Minecraft, though.

This seems... awkward. Like he's a catalog model and has to just go along with whatever he's given.

That is better leather.

Menswear has entered an interesting phase, where people like Rami and stylists like Ilaria are putting color combinations together that I NEVER would have considered. It doesn't always work -- I'm not sure this one does? -- but I'm grateful for the effort. The shoes and the shirt here seem nicely aligned, but I don't know if I'd have gone olive with either one of them, unless it was something I was eating out of a martini glass.

He looks smashing here.

And here.

Here, I am... not sure. It's Dior Homme -- he's at their show -- and something abut this seems all wrong to me. Like the high third button on the jacket, and the rise on the pants, and perhaps the length... I think Rami himself has the panache for it but that Dior just wasn't doing its best work.

A quick palate cleanser.

I LOVE this look on him. Perfect for the Independent Spirits. It's just a little spice but still fitted and classy and cool.

This is also Dior Homme, and it's MUCH better on him. I don't know what the tie-into the tech theme was, but the blue color is tasty.

He seems to REALLY be drawn to a loud shirt under a jacket. I'm not mad at it.

I wonder if he and Christian Slater are both using Ilaria. Or if that kind of jacket is just SUPER in right now. They each had one in the last photo, and they each have one here. Also, I might need to question Rami's pant length again here. Menswear is not my area of expertise. It just SEEMS a little Milhouse to me.

I am not mad at this pairing. Not mad at all.

An ALL khaki suit is bold. It's VERY 1989 Science Teacher. This whole endeavor is sartorially brave to me, actually. I can't quite tell if he's got it handled. If anyone can do this, it's him, but... that is a LOT of khaki. He kind of looks like a waiter at a Hawaiian resort.

I enjoy this photo of him popping out to say, "Cuckoo," like a Von Trapp child.

And here we are, the brightest of them all. I enjoy it. This entire photo is the POLAR opposite of how he gets to be on Mr. Robot, where it's all frowns and hoodies, so I really enjoy seeing him so bright and relaxed. There's a part of THIS that feels like Sterling Cooper Draper Pryce Discovers California (that's Mad Men, for anyone who didn't watch)(namely, my mother). The shirt is super retro.
Seeing this evolution laid out, you can start to tell when and where a stylist became involved. I think the best ones manage to put a stamp on people that mirrors what they would have WANTED to do themselves if they had the time or ability or resourcefulness, and the way Rami wears the clothes suggests that this partnership is the right one. He suits the duds; they suit him.
Now I just need him to go on a show I actually enjoy watching. I know Mr. Robot was super popular, but it wasn't for me. I figured out the twists early, so it felt like homework getting to the reveals, and too much of it felt chilly and remote. I read one critic's take that said, "There are no PEOPLE on that show," and other than MAYBE one character, I tend to agree with that. What did you think? Are you desperate for season two? Bummed out by season one? Setting a low bar because so often season two is a bear trap that snaps the ankles of shows you love (Heroes, Sleepy Hollow, UnREAL, Revenge, True Detective except that I didn't actually like season one either...)? DISCUSS. If you've seen the premiere already, though, please don't spoil it -- a lot of people missed the sneak peek and won't get to see it until tonight. Cheers!
