Angela got an award from Ruth Carter, who said of their five collaborations that it's "nearly 200 costumes and counting," including 60 changes in What's Love Got To Do With It. THR quoted her as saying, “I can think of two numbers that haven’t changed in over 25 years: My mom’s phone number and Angela Bassett’s measurements.” Having said ALL THAT, while I love this -- she looks like a sharp-dressed devil -- I actually think the Moschino model got the better hat, and that PURSE.

Nazanin Boniadi in Elie Saab

Yes. Absolutely yes. (She's in the new Lord of the Rings, which was nominated, so this feels like an excellent celebration of the spirit of the fantasy/sci-fi realm.)

Cate Blanchett in Balmain

The "Tar" costume designer was nominated, and I think Cate showing up in this is very intelligent -- she looks like a chic drum major, and while that person does not conduct the marching band per se, the thread to Lydia Tar is still strong.

Ashley Park

I know she's wearing the boots because she's injured, but I actually love how stompy they are with this.

Christina Ricci in Raisa Vanessa

I might pass on the sheer shirt. (Call me crazy but I also think a sheer tank would have showed off the jacket better.)

I GET it -- sexy, drapey, etc -- but I don't know if I will ever think about it again. She DOES look good?

Interestingly, this was cited as custom, but inspired by a 1997 dress. So I guess... a reimagining?

Bette Midler

Bette was honored for... everything, basically. It was a "Distinguished Collaborator" award. She looks glam and I'm happy for her, although obviously I wish she'd worn her costume from when she sang "Otto Titsling" in Beaches.

Monica Barbaro in Maison Yeya

This is stunning craftsmanship. I can't tell if it's perilous or just SUPER carefully lined to not look lined. I definitely feel like I'm seeing her whole chest even if I'm not.

Ruth Carter

Ruth!! This is dramatic. I don't know if I LIKE all of it, per se? But the waist detail reminds me of a cloth tape measure, which is apt. And it's by a company called JK3D, which does 3D printing and uses sustainable materials, so that's a big yay.

And the back is the real showstopper. It's fabulous.

B Akerlund

The message of the night was clear. (B does a lot of music videos, and it may not surprise you that she has worked with Madonna A WHOLE LOT, including her Super Bowl halftime show. That feels right.)

Ariyela Wald-Cohain

She most recently did the new iCarly. And the outfit is good but that purse is a delight.

Mandi Line

We know Mandi best from Pretty Little Liars (we interviewed her! That was so fun), but she's done a bunch since, including our beloved The Bold Type. And bold is the word for this. I like to think that someday, Samantha Jones will emerge from a fog in this, stomping directly toward and then RIGHT PAST Carrie Bradshaw.

She, too, was on-message.

Dawn Ritz

Dawn has worked on episodes of a bunch of stuff -- Euphoria, Insecure, You're the Worst and other shows with titles that don't invoke feelings -- but I think this must be her biggest project. Others made the statement. She skywrote it.

Baz and Catherine Martin

I love Catherine's wacky specs. She won for her work on Elvis.

Daniela Gschwendtner

She was nominated for her work on Dancing With The Stars -- that has to be a REALLY fun job -- and in fact this dress would look very cool on that show. Albeit potentially perilous for whomever was spinning the wearer.

Danielle Launzel

Danielle ALSO did The Bold Type, and a season of You, and for a second I really thought she might be Megan Mullally.

Laura Montgomery

Another nominee! She does "What We Do In The Shadows," which was nominated. That show feels a little apples-to-oranges with category-mates House of the Lord of the Dragon Rings, but whatever. She did great work and looks like something that the vampires would love to hang in their homes. Her dress, I mean, not her actual self.

Harvey Guillen

Speaking of that show! Harvey, I love that color.

Anna Wyckoff

Anna worked on "The Phantoms" and is the guild's communications director. This is a wonderfully glamorous gown.

Arianne Phillips

I mentioned Don't Worry Darling, and here is its costume designer, quite rightly nominated for that movie. She must have Tales To Tell and she can come to Drinks With Broads anytime.

Lewis Pullman

So, I don't know what I was thinking. Early on, when he first started showing up places pre-Top Gun, everyone said he was his dad's twin and I was like, "Mmkay." BUT LOOK AT HIM. He IS BILL PULLMAN'S TWIN. Was I just having a bad day? Was it a bad photo? He looks more and more like Bill every time I see him. This bodes well for Spaceballs 2, or While You Were Sleeping Again, or whatever.

Greg Tarzan Davis

He played Coyote in Top Gun. This is so hideous and unexpected, and I appreciate him so much for BOTH of those things. His belt flower is even hanging its head.

Deidra Govan

Deidra was quoted on the front page of this post, and works on Harlem. This is kicky.

Deborah L. Scott

Deborah got a career achievement award, for her work on, oh, just some cheapo nothingburger called Avatar, and also Avatar 2, and a thing about a talented string orchestra that goes on a giant boat and then dies when it sinks. Who even knows. She killed it with that necklace.

Gersha Phillips

Congrats to Jany for winning for House of the Dragon. Her whole outfit is chic as hell. I need lessons.

Jason Rembert

Jason is a stylist as well, but he won for Lizzo’s Watch Out for the Big Grrrls. CORRECTLY. I do wish he had costumed his way out of that massive pullover.

Jenny Eagan

Jenny won for Glass Onion, also rightfully. That movie looked beautiful. The ONE thing that got me was at the end, when... well, let's say there's a bit involving a LOOOOT of broken glass flying around, and Janelle Monae is in flat thong sandals -- and runs through it at one point! -- and all I could think of was her feet getting cut to ribbons. I suppose Janelle's character didn't know in advance there would be a glassapalooza. But still. Thank you for listening and I HEARTILY approve of this jumpsuit.

Julie Weiss

She comes every year, and every year, we're like, "A LEGEND." It's still true. SHE should come to Drinks With Broads. I bet she has a scathing and JUICY memoir just waiting to be written.

And big props to Shirley, who looks gorgeous, and won for Everything Everywhere All At Once, which did indeed require EVERYTHING from EVERYWHERE, often all at once. A deserving achievement.
