Saoirse Ronan in Antonio Berardi

I like the idea of this -- that color is a dream -- but given that the shoulders are the ONLY part of the dress with any lively details, I'd have put all of her hair back. No need to compete, especially when half-updos run the risk of looking reedy.

Something about the cut of the shoulders makes her look a bit schlumpy, too. It's the diagonal seam going from armpit back toward her neck. I'd tweak that. Because I'm PICKY AS HELL.

It also might be tight on her chest?

... Good shoes? I want to line or otherwise adjust the blouse before we even BEGIN to discuss the pants.

HOWEVER: Her makeup is gerat, and her earrings are the right level of funky for that outfit. It takes some major eyes to be enhanced, and not overshadowed, by those earbobs.

I also enjoy these earrings. I mean, while we're doing close-ups, we might as well be thorough.

Critics' Choice Awards Fug or Fab: Saoirse Ronan in Antonio Berardi
Jessica has already mentioned this, but I have to second it: Brooklyn is a love letter to Saoirse Ronan's eyes and skin, both of which will knock you flat. I found the movie's third act underwhelming or at least unconvincing, but SHE always sold it all as best she could, and I can't wait to see what she DOES win an Oscar for someday. (Brie Larson will be tough to beat, although whether she belongs in Supporting -- honest question; I could see an argument either way -- is a debate for another day, and besides, I'm sure people would punt and give it to Blanchett in that instance. Blanchett is the new Streep.) [Photos: Getty]
