Critics Choice Flashback: 2014

Julia Roberts

This is the year Julia was nominated for August: Osage County, a movie I can only ever call Eat The Fish, Bitch, her noteworthy line from it (the aforementioned "bitch" is played by Meryl). She looks very nice but she also has NO time for you if you do not eat the fucking fish.

Amy Adams

This is cute. But something about the design also feels like she tried it on and it was strapless, and they were like, "WHAT IF..." and laid a remnant across her shoulders.

Lupita Nyong'o

This was the year of her run for 12 Years a Slave, and this is one of the less captivating gowns she wore -- not that it's bad; it's just sort of forgettable.

Sandra Bullock

I will always be sad she didn't win this year for Gravity.

Margot Robbie

This was the year of The Wolf of Wall Street. And her outfit is FINE, but doesn't seem terribly well constructed? Also, I know outfits have to find a way to fasten themselves, but...

... those exposed zippers are always so jarring.

Julie Delpy

That fabric is delightful. I might've scooped her hair up, though.

Brie Larson

She was nominated for Short Term 12 -- so, no Room yet. This is pretty. Also, she kind of looks like Jennifer Lawrence here.

A competent queen.

She does not shy away from bright colors. this one might be a TINY bit... cheesy?

This says, "I'm saving my real outfits for the big shows."

This is so simple and elegant on her.

Sophie Nelisse

Speaking of future Yellowjackets, Sophie plays Young Melanie Lynskey on the show; she was nominated here for The Book Thief (in the Younger Performer category). She's only 14 here. Nobody tell her what she's gonna do on-camera ten-ish years later.

James Marsden

There was a shortage of interestingly dressed dudes at this; Marsden wins.

Adele Exarchopoulos

This is a depressing lampshade of a gown. I don't want to see your bike shorts.

Aisha Tyler

Pivoting to the TV side! You don't often see a GIGANTIC clutch on the red carpet. I respect it.

Laverne Cox

This is so CHILL by her current standards.

Diane Kruger

This is dreamy. I wish for better lipstick, as always, but the dress is art.

This is extremely intricate and artistic, too. Thumbs up to the TV side.
