## Emma Stone

I LOVE this dress on her, and not just because she's a redhead in green (though it helps, and you know my tired little brain yelped REDHEAD IN GREEN over and over again for five minutes before I thought of any other words). The pattern, the belt, the makeup, the hair... I kind of want to announce that this is one of my favorite looks of the year, even though we're only 13 days into it. But it reminds me a little of how much Mila Kunis, in that red patterned McQueen, rocked the SAG Awards red carpet. Fab.

## Jessica Chastain

Okay, this has shades of being a very posh lobster bib, but I think she's pulling it off somehow. I'm not sure how, because she could use a bracelet or two, but still: I'm not mad at this. Also: Redhead in pink! Redhead in pink! It's a brave choice. And she, of course, downplayed the red a bit. I may not always like the execution, but I have to applaud La Chastain for never shying away from interesting color choices. If she goes beige for the Globes I may cry, because we've had such a run across the rainbow at every other event.

## Viola Davis

Is Viola Davis a winner because she got the statue, or because she's been professionally joined at the hip with Intern George lately? Not a bad place to be. She and Chastain went for similar gowns that are tight on the hips, loose on the bust, which I guess must be coming back around big-time. They both look nice. Although Viola's hair has looked better; let's hope she goes with something less face-obscuring on Sunday.

## Ahna O'Reilly

Ahna was a blonde in the movie -- she played Elizabeth Leefolt, aka Viola Davis's character's employer -- so I almost didn't recognize her. In fact, I thought at first it was Jayma Mays. This dress has a touch of the Fraulein Maria about it, as if she made it for Liesl out of her bedclothes so that while they were fleeing through the Alps, Liesl could stop and milk a few cows. But the violet shoes with it are kind of awesome.

## Octavia Spencer

I think what makes me happiest about Octavia Spencer's rise is that at first, the story you heard about her was that she was friends with the director and he wanted to cast her - which makes it sound like whatever the non-family version of nepotism is. It's tough sledding to fight against that kind of rumor, which is why it's so satisfying that in fact she's terrific in the film and totally deserved the part, and now you can't imagine Minny as anyone else. AND she looks good here. This is getting me so fired up for the Globes. BRING IT, PEOPLE.

## The Help

And so here is the whole gang, including Allison Janney towering in purple, and Chris Lowell and his hedgehog hair. In all, a pretty damn slick looking group. Long may they fab.

[Critics' Choice Well Played: The Cast of The HelpWhen you win an ensemble award, it helps when you all look like the million or so bucks you cost to put in the film. It's also pretty rare that everyone actually does, on the same night, in the same room. Well played indeed, beginning with my girl crush up here, Ms. Stone. It says a lot about her that the whole world adores her, endlessly, fiercely, LOUDLY, over and over again, and yet there appears to be no Emma Fatigue nor blowback nor vicious rumors that she beats her assistant with toenail clippers. That's a feat and a half. \[Photos: Getty\]![](https://storage.ghost.io/c/bf/b9/bfb99790-924d-4e41-a7e6-5e3c6e04fe57/content/images/static-gofugyourself-com/uploads/2012/01/136912861.jpg)](https://go-fug-yourself.ghost.io/critics-choice-well-played-the-cast-of-the-help-01-2012/)
