Oh, Brie. I really dislike this so very much. This whole thing just came off the Chanel Cruise runway, so it's not like it's her FAULT, except that I guess she consented to it being on her body. The underlying dress is a muddy, unpleasant mess, and putting a sparkled shirt over it only emphasizes this? I was going to say she looks like one of the Golden Girls at a wedding, but I think that's an insult to their taste.

She also brought some peak goober energy.

Julia Ducournau over there in the black is in Givenchy. Everyone seems to gone quite low-key, which makes Brie's goldness stand out even more, in a way she might regret.

The detailing on that top is nice, but it's so wasted on the whole outfit -- Chanel is just such a mess. Boy, though, Brie was GRINNING from ear to ear the whole time. Her face is gonna be sore. Between this...

... and the press call, she was in FULL cheese-grin mode, in a way that's really nice. I mean, this photo is hilarious, everyone is being so stern and Brie is like, 'WHEEEEEE!' She seems like a warm person.

Gotta love Paul Dano for bringing some sartorial zing. I wish Zoe Kazan were with him, but she's home with the kids and picketing in NYC, per him. Fight the good fight!

Michael Douglas got an honorary Palme d'Or for, I assume, being Michael Douglas. I think they are hoping to make Carys happen -- remember her sweet 16 Town & Country cover? -- so it makes sense that she's with them, although obviously also you would want your family with you (not sure where their son is). Not a fan of Carys's look -- it's more threadbare to me than ethereal -- but CZJ looks like a million bucks. They're both in Elie Saab.

Serously, CZJ OWNS that. Carys's dress is one of those that you see on the runway and think, "Oh, if you lined that, it might be nice," and then no one did.

Uma Thurman in Dior

Uma presented Michael with his honorary award, I assume because of the many times they've co-starred together in things like, "attending the Oscars" and "being at the Golden Globes" and "Tsunami Aid: A Concert of Hope," all seminal Michael Douglas roles. This dress wants to be so much more than it is. I find that column so bland, and a little Prada, and that's not a compliment.

She brought her son. Maybe they'll fix him up with Carys and create a power couple. Maybe this will be everyone's finest hour.

I'm glad Brie changed out of her Chanel for the dinner, but... this is so... well, tomorrow is another day.
