Anne was about 23 or 24 at this time, by the way. I think 23, because she has a late birthday. ANYWAY. That's just to ground you in time. This is a very okay dress that has a very flaccid bodice. A little Vivienne Westwood boning would have been interesting. It has a faint air of "not a girl, not yet a woman" about it -- it seems a bit like it's wearing her, like if she'd worn it even three years later it would have felt more assertive.

Also, if they'd made this now, the cape situation would have been a cooler filmy poncho thing, I think -- one of the VERY FEW things that might have worked out better in 2020.

Look at all those Gummers! It's a machine of Gummers. A Gummerball machine.

Baby Blunt! This was her first major role, and she basically stole the movie. I feel that everyone in this movie should have gotten more major fashion to wear to the premiere.

Yeah, they didn't end up together.

Hayden has only JUST turned 30, so she was a whopping 16 in this photo. This is all very respectable and I also just want to scoop the hair out of her face like the crone I am.

Fairly snazzy.

Noted Kook Carol Alt is wearing the SLIPPIEST of slip dresses. I don't think it's transparent and yet also I think I can see through it. How does THAT science work.

And the lace leggings are... for when your knee pits are too sun-sensitive?

Maybe this is what Ashley THOUGHT she was wearing. (Though it's not great, either, at least it is DRESSY.)

Stanley was married to Kate for 14 years, and then she died of breast cancer in 2009. He met Emily Blunt doing this movie, and then at Emily's wedding in 2010 he met her sister Felicity and now they're married with two more kids. All of which is to say, it was sad to see this photo and know how it ended for Kate -- for them both -- and also to know that this movie later triggered his new beginning. All of that in one picture.

The shoes and the dress are both good, but discordant. Also, what am I seeing on her bustline? Are those the edges of pasties, or an intentional and bizarre part of the dress? I need Miranda Priestley to do a Pop-Up Premiere for this slideshow and let me know, dripping with scorn, all that I DON'T know about the fashion importance of jutting black fabric.

At the post-party, Anne wore a bag.

And I'm pretty sure that was from Forever 21.

This is the LA Film Festival premiere, a few days later. That yellow is a bit harsh on her.

This was a year before Mad Men, meaning that in 2006 we basically had no idea who Jon Hamm was, and she was the more famous of that duo. Not important, but also, what a shift that was. Her day dress is super cute.

And we did not yet know her from Friday Night Lights, so she was best known as Nikki from Spin City at this point. And NOW she's also Rayna Jaymes. I've said it before, and I'll say it again: LIFE IS LONG.

She looks excellent. She is for sure a noted kook, so this was a surprise.

There is way too much to unpack here. Relatedly, I think she forgot to properly unpack these items before dragging them onto her body.

Did Palm Springs GIVE people flip-flops?

"Come oooooon, no free flops for Vincent Chase!?"

This does not feel especially well-made.

Ever the fox.

The Judith Light of 2020 -- or, you know, anytime after about 2015 -- would have tailored that better AND nailed the proportions.

Cut to: Venice, months later, premiering the film there. I'd have loved that to have a bit more color or sparkle, but it's easily Anne's best dress of the three. Meryl over there is just WANTONLY mixing white and cream, and it's stodgy on her.

Anne looks very self-assured.

Meryl is the mother of the bride whose transition lenses got jacked up the morning of the ceremony, but she's fine with it on account of her blazing hangover.
