1962

She is so authoritative in this photo. I love it. Foolishness IS banned in 2021 and I suspect she banned it in 1962 as well.

1964

Do we think someone made Dionne pose with the troll dolls, or that they're hers, or...?

And is that Rudolph?!? My son Liam LOVES Rudolph -- it's his favorite Christmas movie, Christmas toy, everything -- and now maybe Dionne is his soulmate. He is going to LOVE "I Say a Little Prayer."

1968

It cannot be easy to look exquisite while belting out a song. But amid a busy background and top, her face still stands out the strongest.

I don't have dates for this next batch -- the captions claim "the 1970s," but they're not always right; often these are loaded in by photographers who have a back catalog and the dates can get kerflooey. Anyway. Her stripes are fantastic, her office supplies are groovy, and seriously, call Gabrielle Union.

This pose cannot be easy.

I love this dress. I hope she still has it.

And THIS.

AND THIS. I wish I could see the rest of it. Let's assume it finishes as it started, and does not devolve into pleather leggings.

I have a new airport inspiration. When I get on a flight again in 2022 it's going to be glorious and I will be gloriously attired.

1972

This is lovely as well.

1979

Miss Dionne loves a fur. However you feel about fur -- I have no idea if she wears real fur or not -- I think we can all agree the green sparkles are super.

I don't have a date on this either, but the hairdo seems to match the 80s era that's coming, so. This is one of my favorite photos of her. It's like she's standing on a cloud. Or in Xanadu.

1983

The '80s brought some Blanche Devereaux colors and sparkles. (Or, Blanche Devereaux had a mood board with Dionne Warwick on it.)

1983

Dionne also clearly understands the glories of a wine cardigan, even though there is no visible wine.

1985

I know the '80s keep trying to sneak back into our lives, but I hope we leave the illusion of a genital clasp behind us.

1986

"That's What Friends Are For" was one of the songs in my favorite piano book around this time. (That, and "Separate Lives," from White Nights. Ohhh, the angst.) I wish I could see the rest of this.

1997

Time jump! I don't love a drop waist, but she's pulling this off impressively.

1999

I ALSO wish I could see the rest of this. Let's just assume she has a bionic shoulder.

2000

Well... this was not well made. It happens. We made it to slide 20 before we got to a real whiff -- that's practically a miracle.

2000

Much better. She looks like a fairy godmother in some kind if corporate-based Cinderella remake.

2004

It's very bittersweet to see her with her cousin Whitney.

2006

I believe "jazzy" is the word for this ensemble.

2007

The cardigan-robe is an amiable effort, but we can still see it needs a hoik.

2012

But I am SO here for this.

2017

That's quite cool and looks hand-painted.

2019

And that coat looks super snuggly. Apparently she was on The Masked Singer this year, so maybe that plus Twitter means were getting a Dionneassance. Keep bringing the coats and the sparkle, my lady. We are ready.

Happy birthday to a legend.
