"Alta Moda" is the Italian incarnation of haute couture, and I gather D&G's are lavish affairs every year, but usually in the designers' home country. This year, it was a three day jewelry and clothing extravapalooza in The Big Apple, culminating in a show in the Met atrium with clothes -- I want to call them costumes -- paying tribute to the city and the opera on the grandest scale. It's exactly the kind of fashion show I wish they all could be: huge and zany and spangly and confusing and majestic, all at once but in different combinations. Shoes are sometimes mismatched; hats look like they're falling upward somehow; prints and patterns are a tangle of New York City homages all thrown together. This is only a sampling of what showed, but it'll still leave you pretty full.
