in Tom Ford

Well, unfortunately, my interest in the movie is diametrically opposed to my feelings about this outfit. I don't like ANY of it. She looks like the seat in a custom Bentley, and I am having a weird amount of anxiety about whether one of those fasteners is going to slip back through the grommet. I'm SURE it won't, but... And don't even get me going on the white shoe/ivory dress thing (although in this case the white shoe is the one that looks dirty, because.... it is dirty). And I think her makeup person got unreasonably freaked out by the pale hair and went WAY too heavy on the makeup to compensate.

Well, this may have been more comfortable, but it's absolutely wearing her in the most aggressive way, and it only exacerbates the unpleasant eye-poke that is her makeup. Did her second outfit catch fire, and this was the only answer? And couldn't SOMEONE have brought her a pair of shoes that wasn't smudged? Just go to Holt Renfrew or Aldo, or whatever.

NEW YORK, NY - SEPTEMBER 09: Emma Stone poses before the Women's Singles finals match on Day Thirteen of the 2017 US Open at the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center on September 9, 2017 in the Flushing neighborhood of the Queens borough of New York City. (Photo by Elsa/Getty Images)

This isn't in Toronto -- it's from the US Open women's final -- but I wanted to show it as an example of better... well, EVERYTHING, except perhaps the prominence of the zipper. I don't need to be staring at her groin. The rest? Great. Her face doesn't need twelve pounds of eye makeup, y'all, and if you're worried about washing her out then PUT HER IN A COLOR instead of some ivory boringness.

Sarah Silverman

So basically she put on a tight bodyshaper and then shot some tulle with black ink pellets?

Accessories revamp on Aisle 9, please. Stat.

Don't let disco fever happen to you. (Although I like the material.)

Andrea Riseborough

I have to accept that I am never going to recognize her as a bronzed punky blonde. Also, I hope her sleeve has a built-in cooling system.

Jessica McNamee

Jessica is dressed and ready for Dancing With The Stars. She plays Margaret Court, one of the great female champions who is apparently also very anti-gay (and has compared education about gender fluidity to Naziism, or something? Girl, no). I don't know if I've ever been up on how vocal she was about such things during those days, versus after she stopped playing, so it'll be interesting to see what stance the movie takes. I'm assuming she's something of a villain, given that I believe the movie deals with Billie Jean King's sexuality.

James Mackay

James plays Barry, Mags's husband. But the actor is ALSO going to be Steven Carrington in the forthcoming CW Dynasty, and THAT is news Fug Nation can use.

Steve Carell

Steve looks great, but I miss the silver fox era. Bring it back, sir!

Bill Pullman

Wow, apparently this kind of patterned suit was on the menu in Canada this week.

Alan Cumming

Alan feels like he popped over in theatre makeup before rushing back and doing Guys and Dolls, or something.

Billie Jean

I'm not sure Billie Jean entirely knows why everyone is brandishing wooden tennis rackets around her face, other than... for very aggressive marketing. Just let the woman go in and relive her triumph over Bobby. My parents used to have a Billie Jean/Bobby Riggs tennis racket case, and I am SO SAD that disappeared over the years. Why did we not hoard our kitsch properly?!?

Emma Stone's Billie Jean King Movie Is Finally Nigh
It's coming out after the Emmys, but TIFF goers got a peek.
