I definitely like her lipstick. But if Zooey is NOT self-fatigued, she might want to try working on some new facial expressions in the mirror. Tyra Banks would approve of this advice. [Here, I feel it important to note that I actually really like her on The New Girl, in case anyone thinks I'm a garden-variety anti-Deschaneltite.]

There is also something very predictable about this. If I had a psychic turban that told me somebody would wear blue princess tulle to the Emmys, I would have guessed Zooey Deschanel. That doesn't mean it's not NICE, but... Here's the thing: I'm sure this, our first time actually on the carpet, will also be our last (we are TIRED, y'all, and we missed 30 percent of the outfits, AND we had no snacks), but the most interesting thing about it was the dresses that really don't read in photos despite being nice in person. This was one of them. When we glanced up through sweat rivulets to see her Seacresting it up on the E! dais, the skirt was very intricate and pretty, and it moved well. But here it looks like someone gave it a bad haircut with a razor blade.

Even when she smiled it seemed sort of like, "FINE, HERE. IS THIS WHAT YOU WANT? TAKE IT." Maybe she was just nervous about presenting. She WAS super spacey when she got up onstage, but I attributed that to possible limo-based pre-partying.
To circle back to the clothes: She also needs a necklace and perhaps to yank that up a touch.

This, from the day before, is super cute. We're back to the black tights again, in the midst of a broiling September, but at least it's usually fairly cool here in the evenings. Maybe with Zooey it's like it is for me and coats. I get so excited at the merest HINT of it being time to bust them out that I often do it prematurely and end up sweltering. So it's possible Zooey detected a whiff of tights weather and got overexcited.
