Mayim here observes a code of Jewish modesty called tznuit, which she wrote about a bit here, and also here as it pertains to the quest for an Emmy dress. At this year's ceremony, I think she did a very lovely job marrying her beliefs to the occasion. That color is fabulous on her. And while I wish there were SLIGHTLY less green goop everywhere, I understand why it is: The cuffs needed something, and the shoulders needed it to balance everything out once it was on the cuffs, and at the waist it's giving definition. I might wish the sleeves used the dress fabric as cuffs instead, and let the waist be the only sparkly place. But on the whole, I thought she nailed it.
Anna had a baby about two months ago, so... slow clap, milady. I wish I liked the dress itself better; the disco hips aren't too flattering. Maybe the detailing needed to go all the way down, to give things a better line?
This didn't photograph as well as I had hoped: It's actually dark purple over green, and on the carpet, I loved it for being an unusual palette and also somewhat edgier than what she normally wears. And those are Wimbledon colors, which will always be a point in its favor. They are also Incredible Hulk colors, but even he has a tender side. I would insert a "Hulk Smashing" joke here, but I think too highly of you all.
And then she changed into this. I wish she'd kept the first one. Also, she has applied WAY too much self-tanner.
That's a fun color; I wish she'd accessorized it more.
It must be exhausting to be Nancy O'Dell. Her hair is always That Shade Of Blonde. Her skin tone must be That Exact Varnish. She apparently has to look exactly the same, all the time, and I suspect it's because if she doesn't she will simply cease to exist.
That is a dreamy color. I love the simplicity of this. I'm sure she wanted a no-fuss thing because she had to go out there and offer up one of the tributes that was the most genuinely emotional, and she probably wasn't looking forward to choking through it.
I hate the way all that stuff is tumbling out of her hips.
That is the necklace that I think some of the nominees' gowns could've used -- people really went minimal with that this year. Maybe it's because it's not the Oscars, but y'all, the Emmys are the Oscars of TV, so let's STEP IT UP HERE.
She is great on Veep -- actually there isn't a weak link in that cast. Welcome to the Emmys, Sufe. You chose well.
Love the head, hate the gown. Seriously. Breasts don't need a valance.
Well, she did it again. I don't know how well this fit her -- it seemed sort of stiff, like she could have turned 90 degrees inside it and the gown itself wouldn't have moved -- but this is very pretty and a fabulous color, and kind of wasted on someone who wasn't actually inside trembling over whether she was going to win her category. But, well done, G, for swiping something cool from the tenterhooks of Hollywood.
