This is another dress that didn't photograph as well as it looked on TV -- we thought Mindy looked fantastic, and she also cemented her place in our new Fey-Poehler-Kaling Triumverate of Comedic Drinking Buddies when she came out and actually called Stephen Amell "Arrow." Because you know even that dude's wife sometimes is like, "Yo, Arrow, the toilet's running -- can you fix that?" We're sad the TelePrompTer went on the fritz when she came out to present. In the rom-com of her life, that would've ended in her and Arrow having a torrid affair before she realized she was actually meant to be with the best friend who helped her rehearse her lines. Alas, Arrow is married to Cassandra from ANTM -- a.k.a., the girl who freaked out and quit because they cut off her hair. (Bad idea to live in infamy for that, but in a way, being married to Arrow is kind of like The CW's cosmic payback for what was admittedly a really dumb makeover.)

I have to give her credit: She looks fantastic. I don't know why I prefaced that with the crabby-sounding disclaimer about giving her credit; I think it's just because NBC shoveled her down my throat one too many times in pimping the Sunday Night Football theme, and she's doing the live Sound of Music thing, and there are counr music shows coming, and so my reaction to her is already, "SIT DOWN PLEASE," which isn't fair.

She looked nice here, too, but I DID want her to sit down, because it seemed completely pointless to have her come out and sing "Yesterday." I get that they decided to celebrate the anniversary of The Beatles on Ed Sullivan, but... really? Did the show need SO MUCH padding? I'd much rather each nominee got to see a clip of his/her work appear on TV, to celebrate their achievement and the show they're on, and maybe do the job of enticing viewers to try new things. The Tonys are always such a jovial, loving tribute to everything on Broadway and the work that goes into it; the Emmys and the Oscars completely miss that mark in their respective genres. Honor thy medium, y'all.
