It does sort of SUIT her, though. She has a frazzled aura. She got whisked past us on the carpet, then dragged back because she had skipped Seacrest, and in the process someone stepped on her hem or she turned an ankle, or something, and there was much drama about whether everything was okay -- understandably -- and by the time she got up to Ryan and hugged him she had an expression on her face that was like, "THIS IS NOT MY NIGHT." Which of course in the end it WAS, but just... not on top of her head.

I like this Monique Lhuillier better in pictures than I did in person -- on Sunday we were formulating all the requisite jokes about how she looks like the inside of a history textbook, but in pictures it's a little more funky-chartreuse than straight-up highlighter. About eight bottles of bronzer are helping her carry the hue. The cut is... fine. If it were black we'd be taking a nap right now. But since the color is SO out there, I think it's fine that the design is more basic. You don't have to do both.

Here is the thing with Sofia: Her clothes always fit impeccably, and her body IS that ridiculous. It made me almost regret -- ALMOST -- all the snacks I ate on Saturday night at the Hollywood Bowl. But...

... that's why this, despite being empirically hot on her and glitzy and all that, is a little too much for me. What I used to like about her is that she didn't always go so obvious with the gowns. She doesn't have to, with that body -- it will carry her if she wants to try stuff that's a bit more intriguing -- and she seemed to know that before, but the more successful Modern Family has been, the more she's been going Full Razzmatazz, to the point where now she's kind of like a sexy Vegas den mother.

At first I couldn't find a full-length photo of Sarah Hyland, who looked very pretty, if somewhat exactly like she always does (she has a knack for picking stuff that makes me feel like she's worn it before, even though that's never happened). And then I got so attached to this photo that I couldn't NOT use it. If they wrote a Modern Family episode about Gloria winning a major award, this would be a still from it.

I loved this on Ariel. It photographs really well -- you get a sense of the colors and the patterns, and it's very twinkly, yet age-appropriate. She looks fabulous. In fact, I actually liked this one better in pictures. Not that I didn't like it in person, but...

... when you get right up close to it, sometimes the old adage is true that you can't see the forest for the trees. At this level of detail I just start staring at each sequin and the stitching and stuff, and I lose track of how it held together as a whole. Looking at the previous picture helped me reset my brain to see how it all melded, and I think the way the camera flashes caught it helped give it an extra glow. She's come a long way since that show started and it seems like she's in pretty good styling hands. Which, thank GOD. There are too many cautionary tales. Hollywood lore is full up already.
