This is Oscar de la Renta, and it is delicious on her. It's not very risky, but I don't think her look is a particularly risky one -- which is okay. Sometimes when people who are not truly committed to looking risky decide they're SUPPOSED to be risky, they end up looking ridiculous. Sometimes it's okay to just look really, really pretty.

Whereas this is totally pretty but a little skimpy looking? It's feels a little too-short and bare-armed to be wearing with those shoes. In fact, I feel like a Pretty Short Dress often needs Edgier Shoes to keep it looking modern, so I would prescribe Other Shoes for this one.

However, I LOVE this. I am again not that excited about the shoes, but I want to eat the dress alive with glee. It's SO girly that it comes around to being amazing.

This feels like a good illustration of my Risky Looks Falling CRAZY theory. I know she's wearing this because the designer dressed her in it, but...this does not work on her.

Emmy Awards Well Played, Allison Williams

The last time I wrote about Allison Williams on this website, I had a huge rant-y rant about how much I disliked Girls. I have to admit, I watched the rest of the season recently, and I kind of came around. I think it has some problems -- including Williams' character's, actually -- but it found it's footing a bit for me once it got a little more obviously nutty, like when (warning: here comes a spoiler for a TV show that concluded several months ago) WhatsHerNuts British actually went and married Mash-Ups Lover Chris O'Dowd. Also, Zosia Mamet accidentally smoking crack. They had me at crack. ANYWAY. I felt that I needed to tell the world that I might have come around. I have not, however, changed my mind about the fact that AW is pretty. [Photos: Getty]
