I cannot imagine she expected to win, because do you wear this dress if you expect to win? She was upagainst Michelle Williams, and probably would have won any other year. Someday, the world will look back on her career and be like, 'I'm sorry, WHY didn't she have a shit-ton of statuettes?'

We had an interesting conversation about this dress in the comments of the B&W Outfits post. What it amounts to for me is: Obviously I am always going to clutch my pearls over slits that high, and obviously, people should continue to wear them anyway if that's what makes them feel good. But I can still wish for a high-slit dress that I actually LIKE.

Jessica said she felt like all Vera Wang's efforts went toward Zendaya's dress (which itself feels like a knockoff of a Versace, but whatever), and that's why Applegate's and Henson's seemed pretty cheap. That might be accurate. The fabric budgets alone look totally different.
