Allison Janney in Badgley Mischka

This... is not the most polished thing they've ever designed. Allison Janney remains a goddess on this Earth, but something about this feels VERY like the section of Us Weekly where they tell you how to kinda copy these looks via dresses from A.B.S By Allen Schwartz.

Carly Chaikin

She is maybe the only character on Mr. Robot I can even tolerate, and so of course she shows up to the Emmys in one of the very few dresses that made my insides shrivel. This would have been so nice if 45 entirely different choices had been made.

Julia Louis-Dreyfus

I feel like we've had some diminishing returns on JLD's Emmy dresses, but damned if she didn't deserve the HELL out of all five of those Veep statuettes. She's just so brilliant on the show. There's a reason all the anonymous people who discuss their ballots with EW were like, "Uh, it's Julia, she's a freaking genius. NEXT."

Yara Martinez

She's on Jane the Virgin-- hey, where was Gina Rodriguez? -- and she looks great. I'd add a bracelet, I think. But that's true about 94 percent of the time.

Maura Tierney in Christian Siriano

Magnificent. Her track record is really spotty, y'all. This was major. She also really probably should have won that trophy. Even Maggie Smith is pretty sure Maggie Smith could have phoned in all her Downton episodes.

Jaime King in Huishan Zhang

This is really good, right? I mean, she needs to call up godmommy TayTay for some red lip recommendations, but this dress is great, and by a designer of whom I'd not heard. Nicely done.

Janet Varney

Janey here appears on You're The Worst sometimes. (Or maybe all the time. I don't actually know.) And she looks here like Highly Startled Nicole Kidman, and I share her surprise. The title of her show is apt, as it pertains to that lace bib.

Kim Dickens

So sleek.

Lil Taylor

She is great. I don't know why she's wearing shoulder pads on her boobs.

Neve Campbell in Christian Siriano

So, apparently, Christian said that Anna Chlumsky picked the silhouette and material for her dress. And I love her, but that MUST explain why it's literally the only dud of the night from him, right? Neve's isn't universally GREAT, but it's certainly got its moments.

Also, her plus one here is JJ Feild, who was swoony in the underrated "Austenland." The more you know.

Grace Gummer

Grace has gotten an A on the lipstick test, but she flunked shoes.

Nancy O'Dell

But take heart, Grace. Nancy O'Dell flunked Don't Wear A Swiss Dot Pseudo-Loincloth 101.

Tori Kelly

Her facial expression is clearly borne of having seen Grace Gummer kicking around and realizing she should have the lippy out of her clutch.

Stephanie Corneliussen

She's in Mr. Robot also, and this looks like a cross between a wet suit and an elaborate Kardashian shoe.

Zoe Lister-Jones

Is she wearing a ninja mask as a belt?

Noel Wells

I was a little sad she got the boot from SNL after only one season, because she seemed promising. And she's good on "Master of None," so WHO'S LAUGHING NOW, LORNE. I like some of the ideas here but I feel like this needed about two more days of brainstorming.

Michelle Beadle

I mean that's MOSTLY black, so it counts here. Michelle looked nice. It's actually an interesting pattern. A bit witchy in the right ways.

Georgia King

I just realized that between Georgia and JJ and Keri Russell, we had THREE Austenland alums at the Emmys. If you haven't seen that movie.... well, look, it starts shakily. But Georgia King is SO FUNNY in it. And I kind of like this; sometimes, though, I look at parts of this and think it's a fish skeleton pattern.

Annie Wersching

Hmm. I... want to embrace this, but it would be hollow of me. The idea is intriguing, but the execution is too... clunky on her.

Arielle Kebbel

Her lipstick matches the illusion lining. Why are people allergic to exciting mouths?!?
