Sarah Paulson

This is so unusual for her. It really does suggest that her stylist was like, "Sarah. SARAH. You are going to WIN an EMMY. You need to look SLEEK AND MAJOR." I'm just sad Holland Taylor wasn't on her arm, but she was certainly in her heart, as Sarah professed her love twice on camera that we saw. They seem blissed-out like they're newlyweds. Maybe the Emmys are really intense about only giving you one plus-one and everyone agreed it should go to Marcia Clark.

Marcia Clark and Sarah Paulson

And that was the right call. Paulson's performance in "The People vs. OJ Simpson" was revelatory -- as was the whole series, for this same reason -- because it did a mind-blowingly beautiful job of rendering a tabloid punching bag into a human being. Sarah's public apology to her for the judgment of all those years ago was very moving, because I remember thinking all those things, too. And then I saw the episode where they dealt with Marcia's makeover, and the moment where the hope and confidence and optimism in her eyes just DIES and morphs into humiliation... there are a hundred huge moments and a thousand tiny ones that earned Sarah Paulson that Emmy. But if you haven't seen The People vs OJ because you were worried it was just tawdry, please know it wasn't. I felt like some of those portraits were painted more richly than the characters on other acclaimed series.

Those earrings. The makeup. It's so much yes. Can we talk about what a good run the alums of The WB's "Jack and Jill" have had? Amanda Peet is always great in everything she's in -- even Studio 60, which I hated -- and she got some verbal love from her husband when he won for Game of Thrones, and Sarah (who was ALSO on Studio 60 but I couldn't get there with her because I hated her character so much) has been BRILLIANT on every Ryan Murphy project and won this Emmy. Jaime Pressly is on "Mom," which is successful. And Justin Kirk has been in acclaimed things like "Weeds." Even Ivan Sergei has been working a bunch, albeit on stuff no one has seen. Simon Rex, my condolences.

Sparkles

I just loved all the sparkle in this photo. And every other slide has been SO LONG so I'm going to be quiet now.

Sarah Paulson in Mayle

I think this is quite funky and fun. The shoe choice somehow seals that for me. It's not what I expected.

Sarah Paulson in Bella Freud

This is a little overwhelming, but she's selling it. I'm BUYING, SARAH.

Emmys Well Played: Sarah Paulson in Prada
This gown screams, "I came to win." And she did. It ALSO screams, "I came to make my exes scream with the agony of loss and then pour a drink on the head of my most hated rival, before leaving in Joan Collins's limo," so I hope all those things happened too. [Photos: Getty, Fame/Flynet]
