Lindsay Lohan

I saw a clip of Lindsay Lohan talking about this hair, and how nobody would let her go blonde so she would bleach it herself in her hotel room. Perhaps she thought the external brassiere would distract them.

Christina Aguilera

Speaking of different hair, I always forget she went through a brunet phase. She looks a little like she should be handing a hat to a magician.

Beyonce

The curse of the dreaded front slit. It is striking, though not unexpected, how MUCH she has refined her image over the years. And how MUCH more famous she is even than in 2003, when she was still pretty damn famous. She'd already done Goldmember and released her first solo album.

Mary J Blige

I must make sure you note that Mary J's pants have both a zipper AND a lace front. She is REALLY keeping mischief OUT and bathroom breaks CHALLENGING.

Ashanti

Earlier, in the 2013 slideshow, I noted Ashanti's unusually nice dress. And it was noteworthy because of historical pics like this.

Ashley and MK Olsen

Yes, there WAS a time before they wore witchy caftans everywhere.

Hilary Duff

I don't think this outfit would have been SAVED if she'd flash-tested the top before she left home, but it might have helped? Truly, that pant length is often from the devil. And the shoes look like a 6-year old designed them.

Kelly Clarkson

She has always liked black at events.

Paris and Nicky Hilton

Well, Nicky sure has come far.

DMX

Camo is a classic, but the string hanging down onto the carpet looks dangerous. Clearly it WASN'T, but.

Jessica Simpson

This is her Local News Anchor phase.

Kelly Rowland

I assume this began life as a bathing suit and took a detour.

Mya

Everything was so... SHRUNKEN back then.

Serena and Venus

That one of them is still playing, and the other is only a year removed from the game, is impressive.

50 Cent and Vivica Fox

What a vibe. The whole thing.

Britney Spears

I don't know that it's accurate to say these were happier times, but we certainly didn't know to worry about her the way we do now.

Paulina Rubio

The dog ate her fashion homework.

Avril Lavigne and Kelly Osbourne

Man, 2003 really thought it was onto something, didn't it.

Good Charlotte

If I told you in 2003 that one of these people would be married to Cameron Diaz, would you have believed me? And which one would you have picked?

Kim Cattrall

I always feel such affection for her.

Jessica Alba

Leather is really in right now; hope she kept this.

LeBron James

I would go back in time and tell him he isn't even number 23 anymore. (It is by his own choice, but wouldn't that confuse the heck out of him? I would not be able to resist messing with people.)

Missy Elliott

Noted golfer Missy Elliott.

Outkast

This is snazzy.

Justin Timberlake

For some reason this is the only pic we had of him. He was present!

Floetry

These two were a British R&B duo who DID start as poets. The outfits HAVE to be homemade. I will hear no other reason.

Donald and Melania

WHAT IS THIS HAIR. I don't remember discussing his hair at the time. I assume I was not paying attention to him, which... what a beautiful, blissful existence that was. He looks RIDICULOUS. It looks like a hair hat. YOU ARE FOOLISH, DONALD.

Jason Biggs

I'm glad he's having a good time in those jeans.

Time to REALLY Rewind to the 2003 VMAs

Remember LiLo's robust bangs?!?
