Michelle Williams in Vera Wang

So, I still think she looks gorgeous. But I'm going to be completely honest here and say that SOMETIMES when I look at this photo, I think those strips of neck ruffles look a bit... glued on. And SOMETIMES I wish there weren't a knot on her crotch.

I like it better in this picture. I also enjoy that everyone in the background of this photo is staring at them.

Charlize Theron in John Galliano for Dior

This is much too busy for Charlize. And X appears to be marking the spot of her pelvis.

Reese Witherspoon in vintage Dior

Vintage was a fun choice for her, but I've never been totally sold on whether this particular one suits her.

Amy Adams in Carolina Herrera

So, she has that cute ribbon on her bodice, and then someone glued a brown maxi pad in front of it?

Rachel Weisz

Twenty years later and I could not tell you what The Constant Gardener is about. I also cannot tell you for sure that I haven't seen it? I know. Google can solve only one of those problems.

Keira Knightley in Vera Wang

This dress needed a strapless neckline for that wonderful necklace to work. It's also a bizarre amount of wrapping. It's like a tourniquet.

Jessica Alba in Versace

This lacks the precision I normally associate with Versace. It feels like they came into the It Girl game at the last second and had to hurry.

That color is perfect on her, and the skirt is GREAT.

Diane Kruger in Elie Saab

This is a lovely repurposed petticoat.

Naomi Watts in Givenchy

Why has this been finished with cheesecloth?

Maggie Gyllenhaal and Peter Sarsgaard

Still married! And still making movies I don't really enjoy. Nailed it!

Oh, wow. What would you tell them FIRST, if you traveled back in time?

Jennifer Garner in Michael Kors

This is super pretty, and also, did they blend her foundation enough near her hairline?

Hilary Swank

This is in the dictionary under "hoik, needs."

Ziyi Zhang in Armani

Top and bottom are not communicating. The top should be... silver?

Sandra Bullock in Angel Sanchez

Oh, no. No to the hair, no to the makeup, no to the random tulle she stuffed in there.

Helena Bonham Carter

She looks like a time traveler who had to go shopping to try and blend in.

Uma Thurman

So... her bodice is a tongue, right? No, wait, it's an open mouth and that's the epiglottis.

Nicole Kidman

Twenty years later and I STILL get irked when she wears white.

I said it then, and I've said it since: I wish J.Lo did more vintage shopping.

That blue is glorious.

"Shrug! I tried! I don't even know why I'm here!"

The 2006 Oscars Had Some Very Memorable Gowns
