Rafa and Rafa

This noodle is adorable, and after I had a heart attack when they handed him down from the front row of the stands to his father, I clapped a little. What a moment. NO PRESSURE, Young Rafa, you pick up a racket whenever you're good and ready and if you decide you prefer a lacrosse stick then that's FINE.

Novak, Roger, Rafa, Andy

It's the modern Mount Rushmore of tennis! (I love Andy, but I feel like he's sorta on the edge there -- it's really three plus one.)

Obviously Rafa went to Roger first. They are each other's lobsters.

ga Swiatek, with Juan-Carlos Ferrero and Carlos Alcaraz above

Carlitos looks so CONCERNED. Maybe he was worried HE was going to cry. Rafa certainly did. This was probably hard for him! He is stepping into a legend's shoes as Spain's top player and he idolized Rafa as a kid. (I also really love the clay-colored shirts the Open made for this event.)

Coco Gauff

Apt that she's New Balance, given that she is in fact balancing here, in a manner of speaking. I like the kit and you can see the fun ruffly ankle socks that came with it.

Aryna Sabalenka

I like the colorway Aryna is wearing. I also enjoy how theatrically unhappy she gets sometimes. She's fun to watch -- this player NEVER gets complacent.

Naomi Osaka

Poor Naomi got bounced early. I always feel her sadness so acutely when she has a bad day on the court. At least she looked fun.

Victoria Mboko

Ooh, marigold! I like.

Yuan Yue

I'm quite into these halter-Polo hybrid shirts, and this color really works for me too, but I wish the skirt and shirt were a bit more in tune. Especially with the placement of the stripe, which feels like it should be more to the side, maybe?

Vika Azarenka

The white colorway looks like she spilled something on her thigh.

Qinwen Zhang

And while this one is better, I worry that in some situations the jagged red stripe will look more like... well.

Hailey Baptiste

It was nice to see a new (to me) American face make such a strong showing. Hopefully Nike will get her better kit next time, as this looks more like practice gear.

Zizou Bergs

Listen, if your name is ZIZOU BERGS, you need a sponsor who will LEAN IN and put neon Zs all over everything.

Jasmine Paolini

I like the blues, and her matching shoes.

Frances Tiafoe

He didn't drop a set, until he dropped his last match. Still, it felt good to see Big Foe make a charge again. And that monochrome blue is again very, very good.

Elina Svitolina

Boring but functional!

Lorenzo Sonego

I kinda like the quarter-zip. Also, for a second, I thought his sponsor was something called EAT. I could get behind that.

Ben Shelton

He and Carlos played a good match, which Ben lost, and which had some nice displays of sportsmanship (at one point they gave a point to Alcaraz, and he told the chair ump that he'd let go of his racket and the ball accidentally hit it midair and went back over and that the point shouldn't count -- class act) and a really friendly post-match shake. I love it. Be friends!

Lorenzo Musetti

This man is HANDSOME. And so is his dark teal shirt.

Gabriel Diallo

You don't see the men in leg sleeves that often. Remember when the French flipped its shit over Serena in a catsuit?

Jelena Ostapenko

This works! I also love how crazy her sportsfaces are. This is how I would be, too. Half the time this is what I am doing when I'm only TYPING, my God.

Ons Jabeur

Ons needs better-coordinated shoes. I like the navy and neon, though.

Nuno Borges

"PASTELS FOR SPRING! YES!!!"

Veronika Kudermetova

"I SHARE IN YOUR TRIUMPH."

Taylor Fritz

Yeah, that's about how things went for him.

Arthur Fils

What, how did this get into a post about shirts, who authorized this, etc.

Alex de Minaur

This is kicky on several levels. Alex went out early and has been talking about shortening the season -- playing small tourneys for ranking points has become really important and there are a gajillion of them -- so that people get time off, aren't fried, and can rehab. I feel that. RELATABLE.

Gael Monfils

I love watching him play. He can be such a drama queen -- this is not an insult -- and his matches are often a thrill ride.

Andrey Rublev

Andrey Rublev... was also present! I don't mind the green shirt here. I can't tell if that's clay on his shoes or if they actually had brown on them.

Elena Rybakina

Minty fresh!

Tommy Paul

This is boring AF. I kind of feel similarly about Tommy Paul, actually.

Joao Fonseca

The commentators have been going NUTS hyping this young Brazilian player as the next bit thing, and I can see why: He can play tennis at a Grand Slam level AND do side-angle pose at the same time.

Holger Rune

I am so into stripes; I wish people wore them more often.

Liudmila Samsonova

This is a LOT of bandages. At least they match her sweatbands and her top?

Madison Keys

Classic and great on Maddie.

Jack Draper

Give HER a striped version next time!

Sasha Zverev

Waaaaaaaaaaaaah. (Still don't like him. Would take a seismic shift to change that.)

Tallon Griekspoor

Are these competing hot pinks? Also the peachy shoes don't really fly with this. Maybe they're too clay-coated.

Alexander Bublik

I was REALLY thrown off by this until I realized he'd been celebrating on the clay and rubbed some on his face by mistake (I think???).

Jannik Sinner

Balletic from Jacob Sinner. EYEROLL. Come on, guys, misspeaking happens to us all but he is not exactly an obscure name AND you had interviewed him by this point!!!

Lois Boisson

She upset Jess Pegula, and in the rarely seen shorts, to boot.

Novak Djokovic

This just looks like he's sweating in very specific places.

Iga Swiatek

I like that this has a heathered effect.

Carlos Alcaraz

He looks like a very fierce bee.

"Mom. MOM. You forgot to get him a hat, Mom."
